My Golfs driving me mad
« on: 26 August 2010, 18:00 »
Been having loads of grief with my golf again!!! Its been cutting out and some times not starting since i got it. I was told it was the immobilizer so i had the alarm serviced. Since then it wouldnt start(nothing going to the starter) so i changed the ignition barrell as it was dodgy, it started no problem fine for a few days. Next thing its running fine then starts cutting out on the motorway like thers no fuel supply then not starting for 5 mins!!!!girlfriend and kids in the car not happy!!!!!! So next i cleaned the throttle body out etc and changed the fuel pump relay n put some fuel treatment in the tank. Been fine for a few days but just cut out at the lights and wouldnt start again for 5 min. Had to push the f**k*r again its doing my head in. any ideas please. Could it be the coil pack? frustrated golf owner, griff

As above, on my 16v it was the crank sensor. I replaced everything and in the end it was the crank sensor.

How do you have your alarm "serviced" out of interest?

James
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

Its a 2.0 8v (agg) thought it might be that before when my rev counter went crazy but there is no crank sensor its built into the dizzy so could be this. Cheers bud

its a toad alarm i looked them up on the internet and they sent out some clifford blokes. It was about £150 so not cheap but it all works now central locking, siren etc. Had to get it checked out because everyone was saying it was the immobilizer (including qualified mechanics)
