Any takers? LED tail lights
« on: 29 July 2010, 14:00 »
I made the mistake of using superglue on one of the units when my glue gin ran out and as a result the lens has gone cloudy. It's not too bad but really annoys me! I've tried superglue remover but that hasn't helped. Any ideas on what to try?

I'm considering buying another new set and swapping my current inner tailgate units with the new ones then selling the brand new outer LED units with the perfect fog light and cloudy reverse light. Would anyone be interested in these for a sensible offer. I'll cover UK postage or can deliver personally in Bristol region. Here are some pics.

Any questions just ask or pm me.

Thanks

How much access do you have to the cloudy plastic? I presume
It's on the inside ??

Access is tight but not too bad. The central lens can be removed easily so that's the diameter of the access to the inner plastic. Cutting away the glue holding the unit together is simple with a craft knife. There must be something that will get it off but I've had enough of it now.

I have these lights too and I was advised to use a hot glue rather than superglue for this very reason. The guy who informed me had done the same as you Weston ...with the exact same results. He hasn't been able to cure his either.

No, The milky effect is the equivalent of acid etching on the plastic. The only solution would be to strip the affected plastic from the housing and get busy with the sanding and polishing gear. Not easy at all.

Petrol would only ease the effect a little. and would most likely make the unaffected areas dull too.
