firstly have you run your rca cable down the same side of the car as the amp power cable
if yes the that will more than likely be the problem signal and power cables should ideally be run down opposite sides of the car
also where is your amp earth mounted
this needs to be a good solid and bare metal point
also it could even be the gain level on the amp is too high!!!!

Thought i would jump in on this thread as i have been experiencing the same problem. Installed my amp into my mk3 yesterday and i am now getting engine sounds/whine through the speakers. Made sure rca and power cables ran down opposite sides. Used a seatbelt bolt above the rear wheel well as an earth and made sure the gain level was right down but still got the problem. Dos anyone have any more advice on this???

You mean a whole new cable? The one i used was brand new. There are two sets of connections in the back of the Hu though. Could swap those?

Try another cleaner earth point (no paint).

Don't mean to high jack but I get a headunit turn on thump/pop, and when I change track subwoofer pop. Never got this and I had my setup for over 3 years. It started happening after I disconnected my sub to access my fuel sender.
