Current car as per sig.

It's brilliant, only things I would add if ordering now would be Xenons and tyre pressure indication.
Don't think I would go for RNS 510 in place of RCD 510 as I already have a TomTom and don't really use it much anyway.
Jacara cloth seats are superb and "lift" the interior, I love the retro tartan; probably the best seats I've had in a car. Didn't want leather as it's become a bit boring, had it in previous 4 cars [not VW's] and it's prone to developing a sag in the base of the drivers seat after a while, which looks unsightly.
Very pleased with my choice of carbon grey, it looks awesome.
2012 R. Rising Blue 3 door DSG with 19" Talladega's, RNS510, Dynaudio, Cruise, DCC, Rear Cam, Colour MFD, Lux pack, Storage pack, Service plan.

Spec wise, I wouldn't change anything with the possible exception of the DSG 'box, which can be infuriatingly jerky around town. As you say, though, the GTI is one of the very few hot hatches on the market with an auto option. I just wish they'd offer a proper automatic gearbox, like the sublime 7- or 8-speed units available on modern BMWs.

Would I get a Golf GTI again? Probably not, but only because I get bored easily and like changes. On the shortlist for my next car is an X5 or a used Aston Martin

I drove my colleague's Aston Martin V8 Vantage around the block at work where the roads are cobbled and my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets! It had an even harder ride than my Honda Type R. Beautiful car though, no rattles and wonderful engine. Great to have as a second car just for fun. Fuel consumption: shocking! Not quite my cup of tea but I quite understand its desireability.

I am with you on this one. Good looking car and pretty decent round the bend! The performance is a disppointment due to the low tech engine!
The facelift Vantage with 4.7 litre manages only 420bhp. (The pre-face-lift=380bhp) Even a E92 M3 can manage that output with just 4 litre!
For that money and you like to show off, get a R8 V8! If you don't like to attract attention like me, get a gen 2 997C2S or Jaguar XKR!

TBH, I've never driven an Aston Martin, though my uncle had a DB7 a few years back and that was dreadful to be in as a passenger (rock hard suspension, as you say). If I ever manage to get a Vantage or a DB9, though, it won't be to drive. I'll just park it in my bedroom and cuddle it

I agree with herbie911.
I have been fortunate enough to have driven the R8 V8, Jaguar XK-R and the 911.
The Aston was not a contender on any count except looks which I now frankly feel is quite boring and reminds me of a repeat prescription.
For me the R8 V8 holds sway in almost all respects.

In order to maintain the integrity of this thread, YES, I would buy another Golf GTi in Mk7 guise as long as I also had the use, perhaps occasionally, of a Merc (or BMW) as I have at present.

Hi Frog you say the DSG is incredibly jerky sometimes....??
I must admit that the switchpattern is changed on the MK VI and in some situations not for the better...but I never experienced jerkyness

I must say that after I took Stage I the DSG became incredibly smooth and better than on the standard MK V or VI in Drive as well in Sport.
