I've driven a DB9 and I thought it was terrible. I thought it made a better cruiser than sports car but isn't that what a Bentley is for?

I am just the type of guy that can't see spending that amount of money on something like that. If I wanted to spend roughly 200k on my car then I would rather have:

1 x Mini Cooper S r56 (blue paint, blue seats, white roof and stripes -basically an Italian Job style) £22k
1 x Golf R with DSG and boosted to around 400 bhp £35k
1 x Golf GTD remapped with DSG for driving most commonly around when consumption is more important than outright pace £25k
1 x Mercedes Benz SLK -probably the 350 unless they bring a better supercharged engine than the 200 -for enjoying the sunny weather £35k

and that would leave me just over £80k to take a couple of holidays and enjoy my cars at the Ring a few times a year.

An Aston is nice but it is not roughly 14 x better than what I drive just now - so I won't pay 14 x the price.

Sorry to myself for high-jacking my own thread.

Good post.

I think the problem with this forum is that it fuels desire for all the extras.

I've got a MK6 GTI, Lux Pack, Storage Pack, Parking Sensors, 17" Monzas, flat Black.

I tried to change out the Monzas for VWR 19's or Talladega Black 19's at purchase but the dealer couldn't do anything for me so I decided to stay with the standard wheels and run an upgrade later.

I debated Carbon Grey and almost went for it but it was a close run thing. I think I actually changed my mind based on resale potential at the point where the dealer actually ticked the box on the order form.

Only thing I think I would change is the lights, I'd go for the Xenons but I live in Zone 1, Central London so I really wouldn't get full benefit but they do look good.

I've driven a DB9 and I thought it was terrible. I agree 100%. I thought it made a better cruiser than sports car but isn't that what a Bentley is for? Too lardy.

I am just the type of guy that can't see spending that amount of money on something like that. If I wanted to spend roughly 200k on my car then I would rather have: What a waste on a depreciating asset.

1 x Mini Cooper S r56 (blue paint, blue seats, white roof and stripes -basically an Italian Job style) £22k Hate the bloody things. But that's just me.

1 x Golf R with DSG and boosted to around 400 bhp £35k Yes, yes, yes, but if only it had a bigger boot. Hence the GTi.

1 x Golf GTD remapped with DSG for driving most commonly around when consumption is more important than outright pace £25k I would not worry about fuel consumption if I was that rich. So no.

1 x Mercedes Benz SLK -probably the 350 unless they bring a better supercharged engine than the 200 -for enjoying the sunny weather £35k Not too sure about this one. Hmmm ... Ok then.

and that would leave me just over £80k. Save me £130,000 approx. to take a couple of holidays and enjoy my cars at the Ring a few times a year.

Good and thoughtful post as usual from thee!
Reactions in red and apology accepted!
A Golf R with a bigger boot and 400 bhp is all the car one would need IMO.
Or,
An Audi RS3 5 door when the new one comes out.
Thus I'll save even more than you - approx £130,000!

Thankyou am1w, you are quite polite and responsive (as usual)... what a nice forum we have.

I've driven a DB9 and I thought it was terrible. I agree 100%. I thought it made a better cruiser than sports car but isn't that what a Bentley is for? Too lardy. Do you mean the Bentley or the Aston?

I am just the type of guy that can't see spending that amount of money on something like that. If I wanted to spend roughly 200k on my car then I would rather have: What a waste on a depreciating asset.

I mean that I would have one of each of the following... so 4 cars and cash than 1 Aston etc.

1 x Mini Cooper S r56 (blue paint, blue seats, white roof and stripes -basically an Italian Job style) £22k Hate the bloody things. But that's just me. Purely as a Saturday toy

1 x Golf R with DSG and boosted to around 400 bhp £35k Yes, yes, yes, but if only it had a bigger boot. Hence the GTi. This would be more of a track toy so the boot doesn't matter for me. I do prefer the GTI in looks and pedigree and value for money but if I was going for a powerful track toy I think the 4wd would be very important

1 x Golf GTD remapped with DSG for driving most commonly around when consumption is more important than outright pace £25k I would not worry about fuel consumption if I was that rich. So no. I completely agree with you. At this level of spending fuel costs are not the main concern. But driving the GTI around town sometimes feels like your not using the car... its a bit excessive. However I must now change my own opinion because I do prefer the GTI. It is all down to the pedigree for me and the GTD just doesn't have it like the GTI does.

I have responded to your responses in blue for ease of viewing.

I did forget about the Audi RS3 so thank you for reminding me but tbh I prefer the VW badge so I'm happy to stick with the Golfs. Also I think the mk6 model looks brilliant. I find the Audi models all look too similar now from the front - esp with the LED DRLS.

Although the R's boot is smaller you will find that with the rear seats folded down it actually becomes more useful than the std Gti boot. this is due to the boot floor being slightly higher on the R and therefore sits flush with the rear seats folded down.

Penguin: Bentley is lardy. Aston lousy! :lipsrsealed:
R32UK: That's very interesting about the boot floor. Thanks.

Big sorry and completely off topic:
Pranged my car just now. Rolled into a lorry whilst playing with the sat nav. 100% my stupid fault.
Dent on front part of bonnet the size of a 5p coin, small damage to the grille. Lorry driver had the cheek to say I marked his crappy lorry with red paint! Going into VW bodyshop tomorrow morning. Feel completely sick. First prang in 15 years that is my fault.

Thank you. Hope they don't bugger more things in the bodyshop and give the car back with swirl marks. They said it would take 2-3 days. Not going through insurance as not worth it IMO.

Again sorry to Penguin for the hijack.
