VWKev, there is a 2 inch mark in the centre of the seat (I will try to post a picture later).

I am very careful with the jeans/belts I wear as to not have any zips etc that could mark the leather.

I clean the leather with Autoglym Leather cleaner and then use Zymol leather treat every so often. The rest of the seat is fine and the other seats are also perfect (most of my driving is done with just me in the car and I rarely have peole in the back for long journeys). It is just this 1 mark which can only get worse over time.

I had the car in the local garage getting a few things fixed and I asked them to look at the seat. The waranty guys say that "as the stitching is not coming apart, it is not a warrantable item". My argument is that this mark showed up after 2 months of me owning the car. I don't expect to pay for leather which is going to wear after a matter of months.

The Zymol stuff is excellent, so nothing wrong there. A pic of the mark would be good - but unless I'm just being shady, he's basically told you how to get a new seat.... "as the stitching is not coming apart' - well not yet its not but it may do so in a month or two ;)

Quite amusing I too came close to binning mine last week and got offered 22.5k which was what I wanted, but when it came to the thought of not having it on my drive I changed my mind, Had a Cooper S before this and the could never go back to those seats.

The seats were actually a major factor that put me off going back to the Cooper S. The seats in the GTI are buy far the best I have ever sat in.

As some of you have said I also would like to test drive a Golf R in the future. I don't think it is worth the premium over a GTI but I do think it is the best quality 4wd performance car circa £30k ( compared to Subaru and Evo models and the s3 ) so I would perhaps be interested in it.

I would still buy the manual GTi in red. Would order exactly the same spec, but with Bi-xenons and possibly sunroof. Would not order leather as I prefer the look and comfort of Jacara cloth. Would retro-fit (as I have) RNS510 and cruise as both cost less this way. Would not go for the R as its boot and range are inadequate.

Bought my car as a base spec silver 5 door.
I don't use the car much so couldn't justify spending thousands of my own cash on frippery I'd hardly use. If the car available had any extras then fine I'd take them but wasn't fussed either way (I'm easily pleased). The base spec car was fine for me and still is as I planned on adding everything I wanted at a later date - cheaper and more involving than speccing a factory order.
RNS from Morty: great, love it but could live without it.
REVO: wouldn't bother with a GTI at all if it couldn't be re-mapped.
Alloys: I'm on my 5th set and have a 6th lined up, I like alloy wheels.....
LED rears: set on order, I like 'em but could live without them.
Seat inserts: Nice touch and cheap

What would I do differently? Dunno, I could happily live with the GTI for quite some time if it stays reliable. Would have been just as happy with a mapped GTD as I'm not a boy racer/trackday hero and the car is only used for longish journeys once in a while with full family on board. If I want driving fun I use my 13 year old Ibiza GTI, lots of fun without having to go silly fast. Horses for courses but the mk6 is a bit of a barge.
There are a few Rs available for around £26-28k so I'm having a think about these, however I really wouldn't get the best use out of one for the extra outlay and running costs.  :undecided:

I would do it again but instead of some gimmicks maybe  no camera...or no hot-water-wiper or light mirrors packages instead I would take ABT stage I AND stage II straight away and negotiate a lease figure....GTI is all about speed...

On the otherhand as I drive it at the moment is is quite easily my best car ever...comfort (uptil a point) luxury (over the top) and speed (abt remap stage I)

Good question. As mine comes up to its first birthday I still maintain it's the best 12 months of driving and ownership I've ever had. It's also made me fall in love with VW again and led me to buying my Mk2.
Having said that, the Mk2 makes me want to dip into older VWs again so I'm going to be controversial and say if I had my time again I wouldn't buy the Mk6 at all. I'd buy a fleet made up of a mint Mk1, a mint Mk2 and a mint Mk3 and play around and show them.
On the other hand, if I had to have another modern GTi I wouldn't change my spec at all. My only problem now is I want more power and, since I can't afford an R, I suspect I will be chipping this one once the warranty is up.

5-door, DSG, ACC, sunroof, blue graphite [17" standard Monzas, cloth seats, standard headlights] - and I forgot the winter pack, which I wouldn't be without.

I'd ask for mud flaps, which I still intend to get fitted.

I might think about the rear camera and/or the automatic parking trick, but I thought they were a bridge too far money-wise at the time.  I didn't really want the bigger screen of the 510 necessary for the camera, either.

I love the car to bits.  The DSG has far more positives than negatives (except maybe in 4 inches of snow).  I don't know how much difference the ACC makes, not having driven a car without one.

5 door in deep black pearl with monza shadows, ACC, Xenons, sunroof and RCD510 with dynaudio, cloth seats with the winter pack.

I love the car to bits and the only thing I would change is adding RNS510 (I have bought one from mortygt140) and putting in the rear LEDs (bought from SteveP) just awaiting fitting.

I love the look of the car in black but maybe would have gone for carbon grey if I had seen one before ordering mine.

All in all this is a great car and almost one year down the line I still enjoy the thrill of driving my GTI.
