Bought my car as a base spec silver 5 door.
I don't use the car much so couldn't justify spending thousands of my own cash on frippery I'd hardly use. If the car available had any extras then fine I'd take them but wasn't fussed either way (I'm easily pleased). The base spec car was fine for me and still is as I planned on adding everything I wanted at a later date - cheaper and more involving than speccing a factory order.
RNS from Morty: great, love it but could live without it.
REVO: wouldn't bother with a GTI at all if it couldn't be re-mapped.
Alloys: I'm on my 5th set and have a 6th lined up, I like alloy wheels.....
LED rears: set on order, I like 'em but could live without them.
Seat inserts: Nice touch and cheap
What would I do differently? Dunno, I could happily live with the GTI for quite some time if it stays reliable. Would have been just as happy with a mapped GTD as I'm not a boy racer/trackday hero and the car is only used for longish journeys once in a while with full family on board. If I want driving fun I use my 13 year old Ibiza GTI, lots of fun without having to go silly fast. Horses for courses but the mk6 is a bit of a barge.
There are a few Rs available for around £26-28k so I'm having a think about these, however I really wouldn't get the best use out of one for the extra outlay and running costs.
