Bloody hell lads, its only a question!

If you ain't bothered to strip it for the benefit of yourself then you should not bother posting on the forum as we can't read into the condition of the block if it's still in one piece!

Cheers for the lesson there gobsh!te.

what are ur plans for it?

Actually not going to bother with it anymore mate.  I have a mk1 which I put a 2.0 16v but its now gone kaput so was just looking for a replacement engine really.  I don't have massive knowledge of engines (altho I screwed the last one together) and after this one has gone im just trying to be careful and thought id see if you lot could help me a little - Sorry if it was a little ambiguous lads.  :embarassed:

Anyways I never bought it and managed to bad myself another 9a as a replacement - happy days

Calm down dear, it's just a car forum not the end of the world as we know it.

Get down from your high horse fella- there's just no need for it.  I apologised in my last post, what more do you want?

chill winston

how are going to know without taking the pan off and at least checking the mains bearings as well as the rods, pulling the crank and rods out isn't exactly a time consuming or difficult task

if you want a long lasting replacement pull it all apart, check the crank, freshen the bores, new rings, new bearings and new stem seals

on the outside it *looks* like its just had the usual leaky rocker cover gasket but you can't know, surely teh effort of stripping and checking is worth it, better than installing it blind and finding out its rogered cos I'm pretty sure thats more effort
