g60 flywheel lightening
« on: 20 May 2010, 18:56 »
Ok so question to you lot that have g60/VR6 combo.

Have any of you had your flywheels lightened, and if so, by how much?

Did you have it taken of inside/outside/all of the rim at the back, heard different things.

Thanks

i wouldnt mind knowing this tbh, before my lot goes in...i have heard that if you lighten it too much it starts rattling? the flywheel is only 800g less than the dual mass setup (as weighed by patch)
If Jesus Christ owned a rolling road and it was calibrated and tested by the three wise men you'd still get some jerk asking you to back up your figures, that's t'internet for ya

i wouldnt bother to be honest. iirc lightening the flywheel is to allow it to rev quicker? but lightening it too much could cause juddering. i didnt lighten mine just to be safe

flywheels are weighted for a reason, and as said, you wont benefit from it. only thing you will notice is it revving quicker while stationary.

I understand its there for a reason, to smooth everything out, but if we were always happy with what rolled out of the factory, there would be no need to improve?

I thought it allowed it to rev quicker whilst accelerating aswell, although deceleration increased aswell as soon as you let off.

Motorways i think it would be useless as would always be on/off, but on our roads down here you barely get a straight thats longer than half a mile

Surely if theres less force required to turn it, this would increase acceleration surely?

Wouldnt go mad, weighed in at 9.5kgs and was thinking of going down to 8ish. The person i got it off knows a fair bit and strongly recommended it.

Just thought id ask what you guys thought

Haha, tempting

Its just can get lightened for free then just need balanced, 40quid ish.

Thought may aswell do it as have it sat here waiting till i buy clutch kit.

Seems like alot of negativity, just want to hear from someone whos actually had it done  :undecided:

But will you notice the amount you are going to do it? I doubt it.

Dont forget the G60 is already loads lighter than the DM one.
