going to sound daft here but why is that if you plant you foot in 5th at 40mph the car will struggle so not much torque just not enought revs? please educate me

Exactly - you haven't got enough revs so you put strain on the engine, clutch , gearbox etc as you are in effect overloading everything by requesting full power at low RPM.

Don't forget prior to the remap the car was producing far less torque at lower RPM's so you could sort of get away with it although it still doesn't do the transmission any favours

Basically only plant your foot down in any gear from approx 1800rpm to increase the lifespan of your clutch and also when driving up hill be in one gear higher than you normally would be prior to the remap

right i get it. so if i was in fourth going up hill i should put it in 5th now?

i used to drive round keeping the revs low for fuel comsuption but maybe thats whats done my cltch going 30 in 4th maybe not good idea

other way around - 4th should be 3rd gear but it all depends on the conditions, speed of the road, steepness of the hill etc

What works for me might not work for you but the key is not to stress the engine.  Be in the right gear at the right speed for the conditions

It's basic driving 101 and is what you learn when being taught to drive (I Hope!)

30mph in 4th is perfectly fine as long as the road is flat or downhill but if you then want to accelerate I'd change down a gear or only apply a light throttle until you're doing 40mph before pinning your foot to the floor

question for you rhyso when i brake lately my wheels seem to tighten up throught the steering and the move side to side slightly. hope you get what am saying if not will try to explain in great detail

Not up to speed on brakes mate - sounds like the car is following the camber of the road  :undecided:

It doesn't brake in a straight line? Is that what you mean?

when i brake i feel through the steering the car twitch side to side and this is only braking at around 30. just read on another page it could be warped disks but i have only had the disks on for a few weeks. its only just started to happen never happen when first put calipers on but now they have been bled 99% right could it be they are just bedded in and are braking very good and thats whats causing the feel?

not sure - never driven a Golf with Porsche brakes fitted

to me its possible your tracking could be out or the car is just following the camber of the road  :undecided:

just seen you thread and you fitted recaro seats are they a lot better than standard seats or is the difference just the name stiched on?

Night and day difference!  Recaro's are SOOO much better  :cool: :cool:
