That's what I mean - other cars have a halogen high beam bulb somewhere (inner lamps on the Mk5 for example) as well as the xenon. The Mk6 doesn't, it just uses the xenon lamp with a shutter for high beam. The inner lamp is an indicator only. As a high voltage xenon lamp takes a few seconds to power up, you can't use it just to quickly flash your headlamps unless it is on all the time... I haven't had a play with a Mk6 yet though to confirm this though.

Snoopy... did you carry on with the Skoda Vagcom group buy, or did you pull out with the VAT increase?

I pulled out and went to MI - where I got it for £250... cable, carry case, manual & disk.
Not the bargain I was hoping for, but good fun to play with!

The case is a simple plastic shell with a bit of foam in it.  Nothing special, but I guess it saves the cable lying around and getting lost!

Im more worried about my cat chewing it  She likes to chew cables.
Also keep it from getting lost.

The subject of xenons and main beam flash.
First thing this morning i went to the car and got in. Without turning anything on,
I pulled the mainbeam stalk to flash the xenons. CLUNK and we have bright light. Let go of stalk CLUNK.
So it works fine.

Good to know. That means I can run just the LED's on the front of the R. Nice to have a good old fashioned low-tec CLUNK as well

I didn't manage to see the VW dealership last weekend but my dad spoke to his mate there regarding de-activating the dipped beam and tail lights in day light running mode. They need to know the chassis number to see whether they can be switched off or not- if they can, they cannot be switched on again, apparently.

The guy also mentioned the old chestnut about the new EU regulations saying that all new cars after a certain date will need to have daytime running lights on otherwise you'll be breaking the law. That seems to be a topic for debate here as some people reckon it's only for new cars built after the specified date ?

I've managed to get the name of another guy at my dealer so have just sent him a quick email to see what he says...

Yep, but only for new cars registered after January 1st 2011. If you get your car on the road before that, you can turn them off and not have a potential problem with Mr Plod.
