Help - New Car
« on: 24 March 2010, 08:45 »
Just picked up new Candy White GTI on Saturday afternoon - everything went to plan. Washed the car on Sunday morning and whilst drying i noticed lots of tiny black spots on all the panels. I got out the tar remover but after 20 minutes of trying to remove some i gave up. Went back to dealer on Monday am and discussed it with Salesman and unpleasant warranty girl. Her response was "what do you expect - white cars show up everything!"  She said it is Tree sap and that it will just polish out - tar remover or polish not moved it and it appears to be flush to the paint work. I can accept that white cars will show dirt but it should be clear after washing surely!! Told the salesman that he better sort it out as this is ruining the experience of the new car. Car going back for them to try and sort out - not hopefull though and can envisage follow up etc.

Any ideas what the tiny spots could be and best approach to remove.

Cheers guys

sorry, no idea  -  got a carbon grey on order but I'd be furious  -  after waiting so long for the car, if VW or the dealer were to behave in such a way as to destroy the new car 'thing' when must have been building and building for months, I'd go right over the dealer's head  -  let's just say I'd make more noise than they be confortable hearing!
Good luck!

Kendos, do a search on this forum.

This has happened before to another Candy White owner.

There are pics
Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

Yeah, I'm sure the other owner has a prob with some crap they put on the car, it left yellow dots etc.

I know when I got mine I didnt have any yellow dots or in Kendos case black dots. As for that warranty woman saying what do you expect, I'd report her to VW.

stand your ground  -  you expect efficient service and a total 'result' from well-mannered people at the dealership and anything short of that is simply not good enough  -  I'm sure you've been polite up to now but 'they' have been out of order  -  no more 'Mr. Nice guy', go in, demand that it gets fixed and sorted immediately and go higher up without delay if their 'attitude' continues to be inappropriate  -  you are the boss. My dealer is a good guy but, on the whole, the VW experience suffered by so many members of the forum beggars belief  -  it stinks.

If the paint is blemished, and in a (professional) third parties opinion can not be corrected without a respray. You should formally reject the car.

If it can be corrected then get VWUK to correct it under warranty.

Many trees on these German boats and in UK dockyards, then...?

Pfft, you're talking pish, love.

^^^ sound advice.

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

Welcome Kandos.
Just making some enquiries regarding your paint blemishes.
It could be that the protective film that covers the car for transportation purposes has not been completely removed. Therefore, the dealership needs to thoroughly re-clean the car again.
Unfortunately, any blemishes show more easily on a white car. However, Candy White is a fantastic colour.
I am sure VW QC would not release a car with such blemishes, but then there may sometimes be one or two that can slip through the QC net.
Kev has already mentioned that there was a thread on this forum regarding this. I have also read this thread. Tried to find it, but was unsuccessful. I don't know how that owner's problems were resolved.
All the best and hope your problem gets resolved satisfactorily.
In the meantime, enjoy the car.
