Car's looking good Dom.  I replaced my rusty ole tailgate a couple of months back with a spoilerless item - I'm off tomorrow so I'll take some pics and post them up.

Nice one, looking forward to seeing some pics

I'm in too minds about it, i'm busy this weekend but free next weekend so might have a play then. It seems a fairly straightforward job to remove/refit if necessary. I'd remove the arch trims and sill covers but I dread to think how much rust is lurking underneath them  :undecided:

Do it!.... better to have a quick peek now than it finding you after winter... and if there's anything there you can at least prevent from getting any worse??

Yep sound advice, if nothing else refit them with waxoil underneath.

Wheels look spot on mate I had a set on my old 16v had them refurbed black so they werent such a arse to clean  Rear sub looks a nice install like to do something like that with mine. I removed my rear wiper a while ago now and yes it looks cool and euro what ever they call it but to be honest I cant see sh!t out my back window now  so I may put it back on as I had the BMW 1 series wiper arm which looked pretty cool anyway. As for the arches I like the look but every man and his dog do this to a mk3 as soon as they buy one they rip all the arches off.All my mk3s except my VR which came without ,had arches and I would never remove them for good but everone to there own.If your going to do the wax thing like wayne said yeah good idea but I think when the arches are all cleaned up they look mint and for me identifiy it as a GTi.

Cheers for all the advice, ideas and pics guys :afro:

I'm planning on keeping hold of the car for a while so I guess exploring the potential rust spots is probably a good thing to do. It'll probably be the weekend after next but i'll remove them all and see what it looks like, I know that the front n/s wing is okish as I had the trim off that one when I sorted out the rust on my doors so hopefully the others will also be ok.

I'll grab myself some waxoil and a pop rivet gun just incase I need to refit them all though
