 Sorry I find it so funny when later mark golf owners talk about other cars looking bland

Is that why some of use keep 'old' Golfs in the garage, whilst driving boring 'modern' Golfs everyday?

I never said i don't like bland cars, I want my commuter to be bland and so blend into the bland euro box cumuters, its why i ordered a bland colour.  Modern cars are design by committee to ever increasing euro rules that both Influence design heavily to make 95% of them look bland. The mk3,mk4,mk5,mk6 are all bland euro boxes except it.

I hear you...
I don't want to be driving something 'old' and 'unsafe' when sharing the roads everyday with blinkered fools in 2 1/2 tonne SUVs driving whilst blethering on their phones either...so it's a case of pick something the least bland as possible, from a p*ss poor styling selection.
Filtering out Japanese bland, French bland, assorted other bland, Just won't go there bland (Italian, Malaysian, Korean) and plastic-snob bland...and there isn't a lot left to choose from.

 and your nick's "Ess Three"

Each to their own but I was in between buying another Gti or my S3- my sister in law has a candy white gti 6 and everytime we visit I admire both vehicles from a distance- how one can say the s3 is bland and boring  :undecided:sounds a bit like you're staring through "beer goggles" bud  I love the look of the 6 but parked next to the S3 it looks like a MPV! Don't understand why it's build so "Top heavy" for a hot hatch... one wouldn't notice it on it's own but pull it alongside the s3 and all I can say is that the s3 looks race ready and stealth compared to das uber golf... :smug:

Looks 'race ready' eh?
Probably the least race ready car I've looked at in the last 15 years, in my mind.
It looks uber bland...typical current Audi. It could be any/every Audi coming towards you, and any A3 even close up.

It also happens to be boring as hell to drive. Almost too efficient…boring, boring, boring…with solid suspension, no steering feel and a dull chassis.

I used to own an 8L S3…when the ‘S’ meant bigger arches, completely different cars…but the current one is just another bland Audi designed to fit into the lifestyle of someone who thinks they are better than everybody else because they have an Audi…and for those reasons I’d not have one parked on my driveway.
I’ll leave those sorts of games to all the saddos that live nearby…

 well bud not going to argue as looks are personal after all- some guys prefer blonds other brunettes so what the hell- yes, the s3's been around for a while now so it needs a "freshen" up but my ibis white S3 with the gunmetal twin spoke alloys and recaros looks damn hot next to the mk6  what I'm getting at is that a car doesn't need to be flash to be sporty looking- imo bland as you call it kept the s3 timeless for many years and even though you might not agree after 7 years (8P models) it's still a good looking car. Look at Porsche- doesn't change much so one can also argue it's "boring"  Today when I see a mk5 it looks very "dated" compared to the mk6 (no disrespect intended to mk5 owners as I'm an ex owner myself :)
Wrt to the driving experience ... boring  I think it depends on what you're after- quattro gives new meaning to traction and power out of corners and driving with confidence in the wet... if you feel that excitement's in torque steer and wheel spinning into 3rd gear  then maybe a JCW is a better option if you really want a FUN drive- the golf is after all also quite a "neutral" and well "balanced" fwd hatch and I'm sure a MINI driver will chirp that a gti is bland to drive .... Anyways the topic was about remapping- I have stage 1 REVO- makes the S3 the car it should have been out the factory- have no other mods planned at this stage as my car is still under warranty...

Disagree Gabrial, saw an S3 today parked up and had to spot that it wasn't a 1.6 it was so bland. Shame as I'd prefer AWD but I couldn't bear to drive something that looks that dull. However if they do a cracking job with the RS3 I might be tempted.

Just my opinion of course Gabrial and I respect yours.

Seems I agree with you...
I could buy a really nice spec S3 for £2000 more than a GTI with the deals they are offering at the moment.
A Golf R would cost me £8,000 more than a GTI. (R in a similar spec to the S3..buckets, sunroof etc)
Personally, I'd rather pay the £8,000 and have a Golf.

The RS3 would need a radical rethink over the S3 to make me interested I'm afraid...they'd need to make it interesting to drive, instead of just fast, for starters.
... :undecided:

Yes Gossa- I find that the new 8P S3's with the LED DRL's and new front end does look very generic to the A3 line up- a pity  :undecided:

We're still waiting for the Golf R- from what I've read so far it sounds great but the price  Cannot justify it for das auto- and I actually prefer the Gti's looks over that of the R

I love my S3 and have no shame to have one in my drive way....

I loved my 8L S3...but it was dull as dishwater...
You ended up going faster and faster trying to find the fun. It just wasn't there. It was quick though.
At least it looked like a 'proper' S car...unlike the 8P.
It just looks like a 1.6...
And in S-Line form, gives all the well-to-do Chavs the 4 rings they desire so much without buying the real deal...same people that had BMWs 6 years ago, and SUVs 3 years ago...they are fashionable with the wrong people round my way.
And for that reason, I just can't bring myself to buy one.

Atleast with a GTI you have some involvement at lower speeds...even if it's just fighting the laws of physics.

As for REVO vs Superchips...they are all 1s and 0s after all...just pick the one that drives nicest to you...they all make similar numbers and on the road performance is less relavant than driver skill.

Iirc in the Autocar review of the new Scirocco R the tested times were 0-60mph 5.7secs, 0-100mph 13.7 secs, 30-70mph  4.9 sec. Weight  1419 kg. 261 bhp at 6000 rpm, 258 ft at 2500 rpm.
Forgetting about aerodynamics etc a chipped GTI may have similar times as it will have similar power and torque.
