Starting woes

Thought my starting issues were all behind me! When I try and start my 16v from cold if refuses to start but does after the third attempt (a couple of pumps of the throttle). The fuel pump primes, the engine turns over and when I turn the key in the ignition back (to the off position) it splutters like I've have stalled it.
The cars been serviced - new leads, coil, battery, plugs, cam cover gasket replaced, fuel filter and dizzy seal replaced.
When the car is running there's no problems - runs sweet as a nut. If I switch is off, it starts no problem.

Does it do this every time you go to start it?

I've had similar issues with mine.

What seemed to cause it on mine was if it hadn't been used for a few days moisture would build up on the engine preventing the plugs from sparking properly. Bit of damp start around the plugs and it would fire up fine.

If that's the case I would spray all the electrics with WD40 when its warmed up and dried out!!...

I doubt it is damp as it seems to start the third time. There is not tell tale signs of damp either - nothing inside the dizzy.
It's driving me nuts!

Think I read recently that the metering head can be adjusted so it starts better when cold by letting a bit more fuel in, alan key kinda screw needs to be turned like half a turn clockwise I think.

Cant remember what post I saw it in or who posted the tip but I think it worked

Would be very easy to do just to see if it works

Yeah give it a whirl, can easily turn the screw back if it doesnt do anything.

Dont think it needs to be turned too much though mate, just half a turn at first and see what happens
