Winter Pack
« on: 08 February 2010, 19:40 »
Quite a few orders are seemingly without the Winter Pack option.
In northern Europe, I feel this is an essential option and good value for £365.
What do you think?

I guess it depends what else you've specced?

I already have xenons and leather - which include the washer level warning, headlight washers and heated seats.
£300 odd for the winter pack seems like a total waste of money to me, as the only thing I'll get out of it is heated water jets.
I'll give that a miss then!

Should you feel you can't live without them, you'll probably be able to retro-fit them for less.

The heated seats are great (cloth) - I'd want them again, and my jets haven't frozen so far this year, but maybe they wouldn't have anyway, with the nozzle tucked away out of the air-stream.

I have ordered my GTi without Xenons or Leather as I felt both these options were overpriced. I prefer the look and comfort of cloth.

Regarding the leather interior, I quote from the VW price guide, 'some parts of leather interior will contain artificial leather.' £1815 for this is ridiculous. You can get a beautifully trimmed 'full leather' interior with your own choice of colour for approximately £1200. Besides, the leather trimmed seats look worn out and crinkled after a couple of months use and the heating seat element is quite ineffective with these leather timmed seats.

As for the Xenons, I could not care less!

Xenons come as standard on the Golf R... but if they didn't I wouldn't hesitate about ticking the box for them!
Xenons are an absolute must have in my eyes.

Leather is over priced and not as good quality as it should be.  Everyone knows it - but putting a car in for an aftermarket leather job is not something I'd consider.  I got my leather for £1300 extra after a bit of negotiating with the dealer.  Cars with leather generally sell for approximately £1000 more than without according to the VW Used website...

ETTO though.

I find the winter pack well worth the money.

Heated seats (especially with the jacara) are fantastic and worth the money on their own.
Low washer fluid warning - good, at a guess I'd say about 1 litre left when it lights up from a 5ish litre (instead of the normal 3ish) tank.
Heated jets - good.

Headlamp washers not so good and I've removed the fuse to stop mine working - the only thing that really annoyed me about my car.
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

£1300 for part leather is nearly a bargain!
Good on you.

Hope this doesn't sound too controversial  but I'm no lover of leather, and feel it is intrinsically a less than perfect material to sit on in a car- cool in winter, warm in summer.

However, I appreciate the "luxury" feel n smell it brings, and the durability. And it's the ultimate type of £urnishing.
