Is DSG just rubbish?

Well mine works well and handles the power perfectly. Maybe the harder you push it the better it gets

Well, at nearly 80,000 miles I'm still very happy with my DSG. I had a Mechatronics module replaced at 6k miles. I wouldn't buy another car without DSG, S-tronic, or its equivalent.

I love it..... It is an expensive bang tho....

One reason why I'm not moving to a 996 is die to the engines blowing up issue. Although this is a real phenomenon, t'internet scaremongering makes it seem more likely than the reality.

i have a problem with mine, it just has no response when cruising sometimes (lifting aacel to go into bend without using the brake reapply the accel and nothing happens, put foot flat to the floor 1-2-3 secs later it will change down a gear and zoom off like a nun from a streaker) its been to the garage, they say.. COMPUTER SAYS NO.. other words no faults showing.. grrr... also when going to pull out of a junction on rolling start same thing 1-2-3 nuns on the run just with cars heading for ya, lol. (NOT SCARES THE sh!t OUT OF YA). if i lift then reapply it will work as norm but  WTH  ....... any ideas.......... just booked it in for dsg oil+filter change, its due soon and ya never know

Mine did this once or twice, but had not re-occured since I changed the dsg oil & filter over 6k miles ago.

I've been noticing that, although I but it down to turbo lag (admittidly this is my first turbo so have no experience with that, but did find when it's in sports (and the revs are higher) gets better response.

  I Bloody hate threads like this, there will be people out there thinking of buying a DSG GTI and then deciding not too because of this thread, They might be less reliable than the Manual but this is obvious as its more complex, but i wouldnt call it unreliable. Ive never heard of ONE single majour car company that has had 100% reliability with the DSG Or in BMWs case the SMG 1 or 2 - its the nature of the beast !!

And the reason that is everyone is copying the twin clutch design is because its the biggest breakthrough in gear box technology since the Gearbox, so its probably best you sell the VW and buy a car from a less innovative company

The DSG box is a seriously well engineered piece of equipment. I was talking to some guys from the Alfa owner's club and cars with Alfa Romeo's equivalent Selespeed gearbox spend most of their lives being fixed, even the newer ones after Alfa improved a lot on their reliability. Meanwhile the DSG box is used across the VAG range with great results.

I had DSG in my Scirocco, it was alright but went for a manual in the MK6, much better (for me).
