Is DSG just rubbish?
« on: 27 January 2010, 00:04 »
Have VW made a horrible mistake by implementing the Borgwarner auto clutches too soon?
The gearbox and ratios are the same for manual and DSG.

I hope they have not done a Tony Blair MWD on us all.

BTW, my works just as smooth as ever.  It has it's moments, but I can see it's just due to me changing driving styles (I despise any motorway miles and just drive for economy, when back in Cumbria I drive hell for leather).

funny coz i was having the same conversation with my mechanic last week.  he bought it up that loads of DSG cars are coming in with clutch/gearbox failures a lot earlier than expected.  he hates the dsg, and said he would never get one- as they are the moment.

It's my first and last VW.  I only bought it for the DSG.  Now everyone does these gearboxes I think I'll sell and buy a decent brand car.

Bought a Gti recently, really wanted a DSG model but settled for a manual instead. Sort of Glad a did now with all these DSG problems popping up.

"all these problems", that makes me laugh.  there are a lot more happy DSG drivers on here, than unhappy ones!

It would be good if this thread became a nice even handed and balanced assessment of the facts rather than emotive scaremongering. Now, lets see if that happens....

I am delighted thus far with DSG, 05 (MY06), never missed a beat. (D'Oh! why did I say that out loud **slaps head**)

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Sorry didn't mean it like that at all! Reason I say at this present time on the mkV section of the forum on the first page there is about 5 threads mentioning DSG.

Like you say I am sure there is probably more happy DSG drivers than cross ones.

what problems are people having? From what I can gather the main problems are:

1. Jerky gear box and
2. the more serious loss of drive issues

Are there any more?

MANUAL, FOR THE WIN
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?
