Not planning to sell it in the near future, and I don't think a new buyer will mind that beautiful sound  :kiss:

And for the love of god don't do what somebody on Edition38 did and drill holes in the top of the airbox.. pmsl!!!!!!

:laugh:

Early 1.4s had the old round air filters, they won't fit yours.

Later 1.4's had a similar set up to the 1.8.

Later 1.8s have the same induction set up as the 2.0 8V minus the MAF.

Going back to this one moment (I've been in Essex since 2pm so just reading new replies now I'm home..)

I'm guessing you've never looked under the bonnet of a 1996> Mk3 1.4?

From 1996 onwards they were multi point fuel injected and guess what... the air filter was a round one in an airbox that sat on top of the engine

It was only the ABD engine (spi) that had the rectangle air filter box in the same places as the 1.8/TD/TDI/GTI/VR6
Gone but not forgotten;
1983 Mk1 Golf GX - 1991 Mk2 Golf GTI - 1988 Scirocco Scala - 1989 Mk2 Golf CL - 1993 Mk3 Golf Ryder - 1996 Mk3 Golf SE - 1996 Mk3 Golf CL - 1995 Mk3 Golf GTI 16v - 1996 Mk3 Golf VR6 Highline - 2003 Saxo VTR - 1996 Mk3 Golf VR6

Well my '92 1.4 has a round airbox dude.

Fairly sure that's ABD too, but I'll have to check the book.

Fitted my cone filter today, and it sounded exactly the same (if not worse), as the original air box, LOL

Removed it, and put the original one back in place. Will probably modify it later to see how it sounds....

By the way, everyone's saying that cone filters suck in hot air from the engine, but what about if you extend the pipe right to the offside fender, where is the original box's pipe that sucks the air?

thats not entirely true, at a standstill and very low traffic speeds, yes ure gonna be sucking in warmer air from the bay, keeping the cone well away from anything warm will help this, and a cold air feed from behind the lights or the grill or even lower down towards the valence will definatly help (be sure that the filter doesnt come into contact with any water though), but when your up to speed all the warm air gets rushed out of the bay pretty quickly, but still were only talking a 1 or 2 bhp increase here if that, iv seen test carried out on dynos where the standard air box and filter performed better than cones it all depends. but the drilled air box and panel filter is definatly the option id go with uinless ure wanting to spend big money on a proper insulated cold air intake. but still, do wat ever your happy with, its your car, were all here for advice and guidness, not to tell you what too do
