Wouldn't bother, I don't agree they do anything at all anyway, unless positioned at the very front of the car under the bumper, which is useless for road driving.

Manufacturers spent thousands of pounds developing that airbox for your specific car, those universal jobbies ruin that.

u have a point, but they developed the air box with, economy, noise reduction, mass production and cheap production in mind, performance was probably the last thing on vws mind when making this paticular engine

and i am aware that im probably contradicting everything i said before about keeping the standard air box, but i do feel i should stick up for cone filters as long as they are applied correctly, which is pretty much what guesswho just said, so im gonna shut up up now and return to the mk2 board before i get run over by a fat mk3

True yes, noise, economy, but stock cars never run/idle as smooth as they did with cones.

Especially as the cone is next to the exhaust manifold.

i assume you mean they dont run as smooth with a cone, this is usually cos you end up loosing all your little vacuum pipes when u remove your airbox, cold starts are always a b!tch

That and the car was designed to have the smaller bore of the stock box. :) Which yes is restrictive, but that's how the ECU likes it.

Screw the thing that controls all such things?

If you do all those mods and have the ECU mapped to suit, it would be efficient and quicker, otherwise the ECU is always trying to adjust to suit.

Alright, alright, you convinced me to mod the original airbox :)

Will probably get one from a scrappy, before doing any "experiments" on my one lol

Some people say, drill holes, but isn't it better to just cut a small piece on the wing side, instead of "swese cheesing"?

Tis what I did. I have a combination of cut out sections and holes.
