Just out of interest, I emailed the seller on the OP's original ebay link to ask what parts he was supplying, as the ad only said:

This set consists of :
·        2 x OEM Brake Calipers Natural, Red, Black
·        2 x OEM Brake Caliper Carriers Natural, Red, Black
.           2 x 312mm plain front brake discs
.           Full front set of brake pads

I wasn't sure if the discs and pads were going to be cheap and crappy. He has come back with;

"yes the parts are genuine vw/audi and the discs and pads are EBC branded products"

Does this give any indicator as to whether they will be any good or not?

Also, I assume no issues with going for 312mm brakes with the standard 16" Monty II's?

Mate its actually quite funny how you have come out with 2 immature comments, 'i got pissy about people mentioning his name' and 'im an expert cos i had tea at his house?

Mate come on..... im 20 ffs and i can atleast handle a mature discussion! I'll tell you what mate! Call it truths, Forums are no longer for finding information, asking and getting and giving advice! No...... they are all about i know it all!

Yeah i do have a big brake set up. and yeah i did have fitted by someone who 'actually knows something about brakes' , and i can bet my bottom dollar mate i actually do know more on this subject than you!

I invest a lot of money into my car... (not that money is knowledge), and more than that, alot of time, not time fixing and modifying, thinking time,...researching time! So i take it personally, when someone who thinks just because they have a kudos on a forum, or a high number of posts, or a few mates who will back you up on here thinks hes a wizz kid, so fires back with childish comments to actually make himself feel better that the comment he just made, was utter turd!

Parts on the net mean absoloutely F.U.C.K all to me. If you want mate buy a 4pot set for £1200 from awesome gti, which again shows where people get this fear of big brake concversions from ,because companies like that charge stupid prices...... or you can buy a Garrett GT300 which will give you 1,000,000bhp off ebay for £3.49 with a £1.50 postage charge!

When you actually research into something, and learn an area which i have, come back and give me some stats and facts, because i can feed them to you all day long. Just because you can add prices together with a calculator does not mean you know about brakes!!!

So dont argue mate, as you will lose!

This is the last time im posting on this post, so you can reply with some smarmy, immature comment if you want! it might make your ego feel bigger than your brakes!

Ive backed up my comment on how much calipers cost by posting links, but am still waiting for the £300 brake kit because Ill buy it

If its genuine discs then it seems a good buy plus you can get some money back by selling your old calipers and carriers

I read that to be that everything was genuine OEM apart form the discs and pads. I still might try it anyway - I don't drive that fast that often!

Anyone checked out the sellers other items, he also does carriers on their own for £95 or carriers, discs and pads for £160 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Audi-Golf-Anniversary-312mm-Brake-carriers-discs-pad_W0QQitemZ320468200380QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4a9d64abbc

I think personally i would go for the £160 option and use my calipers, or my spare set, that seems like a good deal.
Or if you want a particular setup of pads/disc just by the carriers of there, still a good price.
