312mm front Brake calipers/carriers/Discs&pads

I'm tempted to go to the metal benders bay at work, get me a big piece of metal and set to it with a file and measure with the good old vernier calipers, anyone know the dimensions? although brakes and homemade carriers, hmm not such a good idea it may be something that saves your life.

The carriers need to be very very good metal!

This is something that cannot be slacked upon! As you can get porsche carriers (brackets) for £30 off ebay! Yet they will be made of tinfoil!

Good metal is no problem, there are some blocks of solid steel at work, i fact i just skipped a load of solid steel today that is used as the towing adaptors to tow tanks, nothing wrong with it just not needed as we have loads of them, hmmmm.

Why would you need to source calipers yourself when Dave has around 30 sets in his house?

Not everyone knows who Dave is and therefore won't be able to deal with him.  Maybe he won't want to deal with us (by the way from what I've read on ukmkivs he is a top bloke so its not an attack against him)

If your wheels dont take a big brake set up , i say more fool you, choose a wheel that does, otherwise dont put off people who are looking at brakes by saying ' you'll need atleast £600 for them'

But that negates the point of a cheap upgrade! Most people will have bought wheels well before they bought their brakes.  Have you stopped to think that people might actually like the wheels they have on their car?

Me personally, I spent 12 months saving for my set of Anniversary wheels so its not exactly a case of well, I want bigger brakes, best change my wheels then.......not all of us have money to burn

The 312mm upgrade is perfectly fine for everyday use and an offers an improvement over the standard setup.  To improve them further you can just buy upgraded brake pads

I dont really understand some of what people say sometimes on here!

I worked closely with Dave over a 4 month period! I scoped over 12 different sets of calipers, discussing which brakes cost which amount, which brakes offer which performance! Alot of people seem to mention Dave brown to support there silly comments about brakes?

£120 discs?? My brakes run off a 350mm disc, and the discs cost me £100! So i would guess at 'Dave browns' rates, a set of 312mm discs, would cost no where near that! How much do 312 discs cost for the anni set up? I have seen them from local trade shops for £30-£40 a disc! So where £120 comes from i dont know!

Spacers- You do not need hubcentric spacers for anything under 8mm, so therefore a wheel spacer kit would cost you around £40

Calipers- ' you would be luck to get calipers for £300? If people actually went to daves house they would start to realise that comments like that are utter sh!te! And the reason i say that, is because dave had a set of Cupra R brakes, and he offered whole kit for £300. THATS THE WHOLE KIT, and thats a 4pot!! Not a single piston 'big brake upgrade'

I think people sometimes need to think about things before they say them! As sometimes, other people do know more than themselves on other areas! brakes are something i invested alot of time and money into! And i looked into for a very long time! So when people come out with comments like that it actually gets on my nerves!

People on forums know alot of different areas. yet alot of people seem to have this' I know more than you' approach! ' you cant tell me, i already know'

Ive also looked into this upgrade and pm'd DaveB him (as you seem to get pissy if anyone else mentions his name) on what kits he can supply and prices

I would pop up to his house for a chat and to see what he can offer but as he lives 200+miles away its a bit of a trek for a chat.

as for the brake discs costing £120 I was referring to the 325mm discs which cost £120

one of the reasons why I am keen on 312mm brakes is i'm going to change wheels in summer and standard brakes will look too small in between spoke gaps. 312mm will look better and will give better braking than standard discs.
