The Honeycomb grill is much nicer than the black slates IMO. I mean Audi only use honeycomb on their RS models so that says something. I don't think many would argue they are the best looking Audi's.

I remember early spy / mock-ups of the MK5 R32 and it was basically a GTI but with a blue trim around the grill instead of red (and had a honeycomb grill). It looked so much better than the Passat / Jetta looking thing the R32 turned out to be.

That said, I'd LOVE a Golf R, not sure I could stretch to one though, price does seem a bit excessive. And it's so annoying you don't get the RCD500 / ACC as standard. When both of these are standard on the Scriocco R.

Could always fit a GTI or GTD grille - might look quite good.

my last car was an RS4 which when I told people I got blank looks....
When I get my golf R I expect the same blank looks...

If I'd bought a GTI a few months ago, I'd be a bit p1ssed off that VW have taken out a better model, and I'd probably slag it off too!
It IS overpriced... theres no denying that.  But if you want something a little different, then you have to be prepared to pay it.

Who's p1ssed off? Not me I love my GTI it's everything and more than I wanted in a car and yes it is better looking than the overpriced and overrated 'R'.

Quite bland, but then I guess that could be a good thing.  :undecided:

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Please don't make it a pissing competition again!
Every one that has a GTI loves theirs I think, and the R people are happy with their choice too, no need for all this overpriced/ overrated business is there?
So far my GTI has come with the wrong trim on a door, had to wait for the RAC by the side of the m1 for an hour or 2, has now got a cracked windscreen, and been semi hopeless in the snow, (but good on ice!!)
Had it 4 months, done 11,000 miles now, and we love it to bits, despite the issues because its effortless, comfy and fast, and no rattles, unlike my mk5 r32
However that doesn't mean if someone gave me an R I'd say no!
I had an Astra VXR before that, much more fun than the GTI, but more because you never really knew if you would be in a ditch or not when it went supersonic (the same reason why my missus hated it!)
That said, those pics of the R need retaking when the suspension is back to how it would be.
Look forward to seeing an R soon on the road, moving to Scotland this weekend, think the roads will be better for stretching the GTI a bit, but unsure where most Rs will be found to have a bit of fun with!

Making the R subtle might confuse the odd Neanderthal from stealing your car but the thieves that operate in that league will know exactly what they are looking for and dressing the wolf up in sheeps clothing will do nothing to disguise it.

To your average joe bloggs they will think it is just another Golf with a different kind of look but probably won't be able to figure out what it is.

The real petrol heads will know ;)

I called my dealer yesterday to ask if he was getting one of these 'introductory volume' cars that I could have a look at / test drive.  He didn't have a clue what I was talking about.  I told him a few dealers had got Golf R's already.  He told me they must be imports.  He called me back an hour later and said he'd managed to find 20 in the UK at dealers as 'stock'.
He was furious as he never got offered one, and the original VW memo said they could only be ordered as customer orders.
He's emailed VW head office and asked them to explain the situation, but I don't know what he's expecting to happen.

On the plus side, my build week has changed from a 10 to a 9 - so it obviously wasn't confirmed!
