I don't see the big deal on alloys , you spend 25 to 30 grand on a car 1,500 for decent alloys is pea nuts ,no ?
Have orderd shadows with mine , will run them through one winter then change to BBS

I looked at a set of BBS Black CH's 19" with good tyres (I can't remember what they were) and they were a little over £2000.  OK, when I'm spending £35k on a car, another £2000 isn't a huge amount - but then why should I have to?!
I may well change the wheels somewhere down the line, but just now I'll be happy just to get the car!
Golf R... 3 door, DSG, Leather, Reflex Silver, Black 19" Talladega Wheels, ACC, Parking Sensors, RNS510 with Dynaudio, Reverse Camera, Luxury Pack, Cruise Control & Fiscon Bluetooth.

Guess I'll get shot when I say this but.... but in the silver it looks like a GTD or even a GT. In terms of looks, my preference is still the GTI. However it does look that little more special from dead front on but still looks like a GT to me.
Does the car look 34k? To me - no. Does the car look like it cost 20k? to me - yes.

It would be very interesting to see the blue one (I loved the R32 in blue, kicked myself silly when I put the order in for the MK5 GTI back in 2006, wished I'd got an R32 IMO it was well worth the extra cash and sounded wonderful. But the R just doesn't cut it for me for that amount of cash and looking a little too plain for me.

It's each to their own but the GTI with the 18' rims in black still has that wow factor for me that the R in the pics just didn't

Hey TC! How did you get him to agree to a test-drive?I was down there this morning trying to do a deal on the blue one, have a Mk6 GTI to p/x.
The salesman i was dealing with said they are being sold as new cars so no test drives and no discounts.
I was slightly underwhelmed if i'm honest, although the blue car is still covered in the protective film etc. 19" wheels would improve it no end, shame it came on the 18 inch wheels.

I'm probably goin to get torn to shreads here but I think the R looks cheap. The front styling looks like something you would get from a standard Golf. The alloys I think are terrible compaired to what you get on the GTI and did get on past R32's, regardless if they are the 18's or 19's. Nice rear end but thats it. When a GTI is coming towards you or up behind you then you straight away realise it's a GTI but I don't think you'll get that with the R and that isn't right considering the money they cost. Nothing stands out to me.

Does anyone agree or am I on my own with this?????? :lipsrsealed:

+1  for sure man.  not sure what it is specifically, but prob a combination of:  alloys, transport blocks, photo angle, silver paint, lack of red trim
means that this silver R looks awful

Mk6 Golf GTI 5dr, DBP, Monza Shadow, Xenons, ACC, RCD510, Park Assist, Camera, Lux pack.... and now bluetooth.... and now DSG!

They made me sign my life away, he started pushing finance forms into my face and made me go through all the spec i wanted. To be honest it was probably just a big push to get me to walk away with one as soon as i went back for the test drive all of a sudden it wasn't ready. Lets see if i get a call tomorrow.

I'm in the "not impressed" camp. From side on it looks like a bog standard Golf that someone's put nice alloys on. I know some people want the stealth approach. However, if I've spent £34k I want people to know I've spent £34k. Not £12k!!!
At least with the GTi everyone knows it's top notch stuff. With the R you need to be in the know to recognise it. Those pictures convince me even more than I was before that it's hugely overpriced.
