I agree that it doesnt stand out, but if I had one, then I would want it more stealthy - thats prolly just me though - and I agree about the wheels, they are gonna be a right bugger to keep clean too.

I'm probably goin to get torn to shreads here but I think the R looks cheap. The front styling looks like something you would get from a standard Golf. The alloys I think are terrible compaired to what you get on the GTI and did get on past R32's, regardless if they are the 18's or 19's. Nice rear end but thats it. When a GTI is coming towards you or up behind you then you straight away realise it's a GTI but I don't think you'll get that with the R and that isn't right considering the money they cost. Nothing stands out to me.

Does anyone agree or am I on my own with this?????? :lipsrsealed:

Colour has a lot to do with it. I keep seeing black or silver GT's on 18's and think they're a GTI. Apart from the wheels, wide mounted exhausts, two thin red lines and some fang-shaped fog lights, the GTI looks pretty much like any other Golf too.

I think you'll instantly know it when an R is approaching in the rearview mirror. But parked up, the R will need to be in Rising blue to stand out. It's all down to personal taste at the end of the day. For example I'm not a big fan of the GTI wheels, but I do like these 5 spokes (EDIT: in silver, not black ).

The different colour on the plastic bumper really stands out on the 3rd picture.. Looks really nice but not sure if it's £34k nice!

^^^Exactly.

The blue looked better today, it was dull and the paint was dirty, but i think polished up it would be gorgeous.

Interesting. Mixed reports about the blue so far.

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

I totally agree, wheels are too bling & there looks too much space between the arches - looks to be sat quite high? Like it from the fron but that's it, definitely doesn't look like a 30K+ car ...I've just bought a 3door MKV GTI in Silver & think it looks better (although I may be slightly biased of course)

I reckon you need a ladder to get in - look at the gaps under the arches !

The car has not been PDi'd yet so the suspesion blocks need to be taken out!! Then the car will look much lower than that!! I think it looks a blinding little motor esp in silver!!

I was just away to say the same!
I like the way the dealer is quoting the 2010 price even though it would have been order in the 2009 prices!!

I'm well pleased with the way the silver one looks.  Its a shame the wheels aren't black though.
Suspension is on transport blocks... in reality its 25mm lower than the GTI, so should be considerably lower.

Personally I hate the GTI wheels and always have.  To be honest, the R wheels are not what I'd have picked from a catalogue if I had the choice of anything, but they are growing on me, and I think they're much nicer than the GTI ones.  I think they'll look great in black on the silver car though.  Also the black lights will look better too I think.

No discount?!?!  I got a whopping 1.77% off mine
One day it will arrive - until then I'll keep looking at these photos knowing it will come EVENTUALLY!!

Looking forward to the test drive review TC

I don't see the big deal on alloys , you spend 25 to 30 grand on a car 1,500 for decent alloys is pea nuts ,no ?
