the vr6 into 8v isnt really that hard if ya do your research first

different opinions here on the vr6 conversion idea, each to their own

me, well i like the idea
first there is the 6 cylinder tone ya cant beat
then there is this little saying

built not bought!!!!!

and the fun of leavin your car badged as a 8v gti only to make a prick outta peeps who try being funny buggers at the lights,
what fun !!!!!!!!

Although i have to say this otherwise my gf would beat me up , i done this conversion to her car earlier this year
but thats because we couldnt find a vr6 in the same immaculate body condition as her mk3 gti (it really is a minter :smug:

on a mk3 golf engine conversions are easy because they have subframes that unbolt and the whole front end of the car comes off.

Which means if you are replaceing the engine, box and shafts all you have to do is unplug the loom, unbolt the rack, and bottom stuts, cooling system and gear selector and clutch acutator and the the subframe will come straight out.

Simple

i you decide to go the vr6 transplant route here is an rough idea of whats involved regarding the 8v

hydraulic clutch as 8v is cable
gear linkage as its cable on vr6 and rod on 8v

imobiliser issues too
you will need the vr6 key and ignition locks door locks too
*************or************
*****to avoid all that hastle****
just use the vr6 transponder reciever, ignition ring and swap the chips inside the keys
ie  put the chip from the vr6 key into your 8v key
this way you keep the 8v ignition barrel, door locks etc
Thats is how i do it!

wiring is fun, the vr6 relays are located differently

thats the basics i think
but dont forget you may need your brakes uprated to vr6 too to do it proper
and the vr6 is heavier than the 8v so suspension can also become an issue

if ive missed anything im sure someone will point it out
