yes its in and it also says "it costs significantly more than its obvious competition, most of which is more exciting to drive."

After it goes on about how refined the Golf is and a wolf in sheeps clothing.
From all the 'first drives' I've read so far, the Golf R sounds exactly what I want.  Refined as a Passat on the motorway, faster and better to drive that the Golf GTI, subtle to look at, and not chavvy and loud like a Focus RS.
Ideally it would have been £3k less - but hey ho!!!

I can't remember which one it was I read (Evo, Auto Express or Autocar), but one said it had more feel to it than the GTI - so it sounds like it won't be anything like the S3

If we order in 6 months I'm sure we'd get the car IN 2011...
Good luck though if you can wait...

Perhaps... but if they're really as limited as VW say then I doubt it.  You can't even get a £3k discount off a GTI - so I can't see them giving you £3k off an R.  Plus, as Booski says, you'd be lucky to get it in 2011!!

My problem is that since my ED30 was written off in March, I've been borrowing cars from people waiting for the R to be released.  By the time it actually comes I'll have been waiting 13 months... so I CAN'T really wait any longer!!!

I think you already saved a few quid by pre-ordering as the New list price is now £30090 (compared to £28930 I think) although about £600 of that is the extra 2.5% VAT which you may have to pay if Delivery is after 28th Feb

I noticed that when I re-specced my car after January - it'd gone up in price by over £2k from what I'm actually paying.  I did manage to get 1.77% discount which was about £650 though.  If the car comes after 28th Feb (which it will) my dealer has agreed to pay half the VAT increase... although if its much later than that I'll be pushing for the full VAT off since I originally put my deposit down in May 2009!!!
