I'm back r32 or mk6 GTI?
« on: 31 December 2009, 17:54 »
Well, I cancelled my June order for a gti (expected delivery feb!) and opted for a BMW 335d. I'm currently in the process of returning it due to persistent leather problems and poor mpg for a diesel (17mpg around town) averaging under 30 on the combined so I'd rather have petrol. Also no folding seats and small boot opening mean it's no good for lugging.

I have a budget of about £31k and will probably get two cars- a golf either R32 or mk6 gti and a diesel estate or 4x4.

What do people think - ESP those who have had an r32 before. Is it a lot more fun and planted on the road, or does the nicer exterior and interior of the mk6 make up for that?
Obviously going for the mk6 would seriously affect my budget for the other car which might have to be a crapper... Sadly now 31k would be unlikely to get me the car I ordered before for 29 :(
I really miss the feel of my impreza, but want an auto.  I thought paddleshift would he great, but actually just flick to sport in the Beemer.

I've also considered an evo x but the wife won't let me :(

Ah great news that would give me enough left over for something decent! Why are you back in a mk5 - gti or r32?
you seem to have been swapping more than me! Wrx, and then spent more time in the 118d courtesy car than in the 335d- I've discovered a fast car that sounds slow is no fun at all

Agree - Mk5 R32 is future classic. It's an itch that's gotta be scratched - no more V6 Golfs. The Mk6 GTI can wait.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN!

some turd in a tranny drove into the MK6. So now back in a MK5 Gti... drives just as well as the mk6 tbh.

R32.. then in 2 years you could probably almost straight swap it for a used mk6 GTI. When i was testing the mk6 (see my review in the sticky at the top) i kept leaning to the race instructor telling him how much better my R32 was

Shame you cannot have the evo x, they where doing the FQ330SST for the same price as the FQ300SST, a big saving there.

Try a DSG R32,  you won't regret it

Not quite as light and nimble as a GTi, but fantastic traction in all conditions and a great V6 soundtrack.
