It should be called a Golf Mk5.5!

DONT SAY THAT!!!!, your upset everyone

I just dont get why that upsets some people :undecided:/

Yes they share a common platform, but the important stuff is different... certainly nothing to be sniggered at.

Indeed mate, they just improved something that was good.

I think its mostly previous mk5 owners trying to justify the extra 10k it costs to get a mk6.

Fortunately for me the MK6 costs me £150pm less

Yeah but you had an R32 and changed because it was cheaper, not a mk5 GTI and changed because it was newer

Im not sure where the 10k figure comes in?? How much was a brand new MK5 gti??

Your obviously comparing new to old.. which is pointless. If you were to buy a brand new mk5 GTI now then you would be paying exactly what a MK6 costs. So what would you have a MK5 or MK6??

You are right mate, the point is people bought a new mk5 gti, it depreciated then they bought a new mk6 gti. Thats a loss of what, 8k on depreciation (say they sold for 15k) then buying the mk6 gti at around 25k, so another 10k on top. If you add it up its a loss of 18k, which is a lot of money for what is technically the same car (albeit improved)
Would explain the fierce defending of some of the people on here. I haven't noticed anyone trying to convince anyone else, seems most people are trying to convince themselves (or there partners lol)

I dont think this issue is only effects the GTI... buy any new car drive it for a year then sell and buy a brand new car has to be a crazy way of doing things... but some crazy people just like to have a new car every 2yrs!! Crazy crazy people..... like me

It is mate, even more so when your effectively buying the same car. An upgrade isnt so bad but the same car (albeit better) is a hard one to swallow! Hence the aggressive defense over the mk5.5 comments.
