Loud rumble???
« on: 02 December 2009, 19:14 »
Hey guys

Just picked up my new Gate and I am loving it, such a great car.

One thing that’s worrying me though is when I go above 20mph there seams to be a loud rumble? Am I being silly and could it just be the cheap tyres making a lot or noise, or could it be something worse like the bearings?

I might sound like an idiot to some, but I just I don’t want my new car falling apart. I have a years VW warranty so if anything major needs changing it should be covered.

So should I go to the stealers and get it checked out?
Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

Pretty sure its the tyres - does it go away after about 40-50mph?

I'd be hitting t'internet for new tyres, mate.

MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

Ha ha "gate" I am such a spaz, thats spell check for ya.

Thanks for the info, I've been looking for tyres, I am leaning towards the Eagle F1 Asymetics. Do I need the XL ones or just the regular ones?

Another thing I noticed today is that my engine on idle is really clunky and sounds like a diesel. Any ideas what might be causing that?

Get some decent tyres on there to allow you to make full use of the power :)

As Jules said that sound is a "feature" of the engine lol. I've had someone actually ask me if its a diesel :(

Thats like someone asking if you have no thingy because your voice is high (which is still probably better than someone thinking you drive a diesel  )

I know, I was not impressed. It was my sisters new (at the time) BF and he come out to have a look and accused me of sticking GTI bits on diesel, I had to prove it to him by opening the bonnet as he just refused to believe me :D :D
