So sorry for posting this load of SH!T!

Oh you have to scroll down to the table where it says "Manner of use Prohibited"

it still doesn't say...

You are not allowed to use rear fogs at night.

... does it?

If I am talking sh!t then tell that to 2 mates of mine that have been pulled and fined for using front fogs at night!
Good link.

Surely the fogs & headlights is covered by:

236
You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

At night I wouldn't say visibility is reduced.

James

This is correct!

Rear fog lights dazzle at night and even in fog are not necessary!

sorry Len... but where does it say that you are 'not allowed' to use rear fogs at night?

Dunno actually!

A Traffic cop told me this a long time ago but have never seen it written down. I wasnt being pulled at the time, came up in conversation.

so you're saying things you don't know about and then saying you're not talking sh!t... nice one!

I suggest you read it properly!
It says - Manner of use Prohibited - rear fog lights at night dazzle, that is a fact!

How the hell can using rear fogs at night be illegal, if they were then why do they work with the lights on.

The expert in question got it from the Law as has been shown above in the correct legal terms.

Restrictions on the use of lamps other than those to which regulation 24 refers
    27.    No person shall use, or cause or permit to be used, on a road any vehicle on which any lamp, hazard warning signal device or warning beacon of a type specified in an item in column 2 of the Table below is used in a manner specified in that item in column 3.
TABLE(1) (2) (3)
Item No.  Type of lamp, hazard warning signal device or warning beacon  Manner of use prohibited
1 Headlamp

(a)  Used so as to cause undue dazzle or discomfort to other persons using the road.

(b)  Used so as to be lit when a vehicle is parked.

2 Front fog lamp

(a)  Used so as to cause undue dazzle or discomfort to other persons using the road.

(b)  Used so as to be lit at any time other than in conditions of seriously reduced visibility.

(c)  Used so as to be lit when a vehicle is parked.

3 Rear fog lamp

(a)  Used so as to cause undue dazzle or discomfort to the driver of a following vehicle.

(b)  Used so as to be lit at any time other than in conditions of seriously reduced visibility.

(c)  Save in the case of an emergency vehicle, used so as to be lit when a vehicle is parked

Somewhere else it says what the reduced visibility is - think its 100 metres.

i am NOT arguing that the misuse of a rear fog light at night will dazzle... ie. not in fog.  I am simply asking you to show me where you based your fact of 'you are not allowed to use rear fogs at night'??!

Len, the point is what if its foggy at night? Yes we all agree you shouldn't use fog lights at night when its clear, or during the day if its clear for that matter!

But if its night time and proper foggy, then you should use your foglights. Non of the links say you cant  use your foglights at night, just that you should only use them when the visibility is very poor.

If your mates had their fog lights on in thick fog, they would not have been pulled for it.  I'd hope they would still have been pulled if it was during the day as well, even if its light out rear fogs still dazzle you.
