Right I was driving along not putting my foot down or anything and just generally picking up speed from second to third

next thing I know I hear a pop and loose power, I look in my rear view there is a fair bit of smoke not loads but more than enough to notice

the turbo wasn't kicking in after this so drove hoe really slowly using less revs as possible.

When I opened the hood I found this problem, a pipe come away, not sure what it is but can't get it back in.

Please see the video attached and can someone please tell me what's up and how much it will cost to get sorted.

Anyone else had this problem? Is it common?

a intercooler hose a popped off
take the plastic cover off and your see the hose is not pushed in.
there is also a metal u shaped clip which holds the hose in place. see if you can find the metal clip.
the clip needs to be pushed around the metal EGR pipe first then the hose gets pushed in

heres a picture of a blown intercooler pipe on mine
you can see the metal clip

also check the lugs on the pipe for signs of wearing

Cheers for the speedy response, I think the clip has dropped off as I can't find it.

I'll get the garage to put one on as it's going for a check on something else anyway.

Is this common???

looking at the video is there any damage to the housing??

From a certain angle it looks as if you've had the same happen to you as it did to me in that you've shattered the EGR housing and you'll need a new one

That will be £190 by the way

What causes this kind of thing happening?

Is it something i'm doing? Am I driving in a way that is making this happen?

Yes - and you're looking for any pieces of metal that are missing basically

Yeah stop driving like an idiot

Not your fault mate - its the stupid clip design; under pressure the hoses move about and the lugs wear down until eventually there is nothing left to hold and your pipes blow off

sadly it will happen fairly often

get all the pipework checked out and for the sake of a few quid replace ALL the clips  and keep some spare in your glovebox
