Forgot to mention:

Check the blue hose that goes from the brake fluid reservoir downwards and connects into the outside of the master cylinder. Then follow the other line that comes out of the master cylinder to the slave cylinder for leaks.
Also check inside the car by the clutch pedal where the rod goes into the master cylinder for leaks (check under the carpet).

Check your brake fluid level is ok.

update:

i bleed the car a couple of days ago and thought it was all ok,until today.

clutch pedal only comes back half way  sometimes once you have pressed it.

so it looks like a new slave cylinder then?????

would you guys recommend getting one of these before a clutch master cylinder????(im still new to cars as a whole so forgive my not knowing anything!!!)

cheers again
pat.

Have you checked the return spring on the pedal.

If the pedal has been going down on its own overnight I would suspect the master cylinder first.

For popular makes of master and clutch cylinders you can get repair kits consisting of the seals. As long as the cylinder is ok these can be a cheap way of repairing master and slave cylinders.

thanks a lot mate.
as for fluid loss....not that i can see.and the res still seems to be full...its a strange one.
99% of the time the pedal works fine, and the clutch feels good, but every now and then i dip the clutch to change gear and the pedal only returns half way,and i have to put my foot under the pedal to pull it back up....or i could park it over night,or even for 5 mins sometimes and the pedal has compressed half way down.

lots of head scratching    pat

The spring you should be able to see from inside the car. Just a long shot that it may be broken, it is the spring that makes the pedal return. Free to have a look.
The master cylinder is seperate to the brake master cylinder, two seperate items but both share the brake fluid reservoir.

In fairness it could be either the master or slave cylinder, not sure how you would check to see which one it is unless you can see leaking fluid. Leaking fluid may be internal past the seals.  Have you disconnected the slave cylinder from the gearbox to see if there are any leaks into the gearbox.
