Yes, officially I have resigned from this forum, at least for the time being as I tend to my new project, restoring a Mazda MX5. However, I do pop back here from time to time, so no problem.

The Interlagos do protrude slightly, but I think they give the car a more purposeful stance and obviously look a lot nicer than the Monza Shadows [/$hit_stirring ]. The photo of Exonian's silver GTI is spot on: 13mm might sound a lot, but it looks fine, IMO. I have had absolutely no issues regarding rubbing on the wings, so go for it

Completely OT, but for those interested, here's the latest pic of the MX5 now about 95% finished. I paid £2000 for the car (less than the satnav option on the GTI ) and have spent the last 5 weeks doing her up. A completely different car to the GTI, but honestly just as much fun

The only downside is the fronts which protrude out approximatly 13mm.

Wow, you just scared me MAW73, 13mm!!! I hope you are saying they sit 13mm out compared to some other wheel. It sounds like at most they might protrude just a few mm and maybe not at all with 225/40/18 tires. I do have a darker car, so the look should be good.

Honestly, it all really sounds quite encouraging, except MAW73's 13mm. I'm glad to hear Exonian likes the wheels so well, which is saying something for someone that changes wheels so frequently! I do love the look of the wheels and I generally like a stocky set-up, so maybe it really will be perfect for me.

Since the front and rear wheels do sit a bit differently on the MKVI, I suppose the slightly higher offset would skimp on the rear, but maybe be perfect in the front. With the Interlagos and 235/40/18, the rear may be perfect but then the front may be out by just a tad. I think I will like the taller sidewall, since I am still on a stock suspension. Then maybe if I went to a 225/40/18 I would like the more square fit Exonian described and the front would look virtually flush.

Don't be put off by my point regarding the 13mm. Try the 225 tyres as Exonian suggested and I'm sure there look bang on! Go for it and post some pictures!

The only downside is the fronts which protrude out approximatly 13mm. This is the only thing I couldn't really grow to love with these wheels.

You guys have all been great and very helpful. FroGTI even came out of retirement to help me! In spite of all of your encouragement to go ahead, I think I am going to give up on the new 18 x 8 ET41 wheels. I love the way they look, the price seemed great, and I wanted to have wheels spaced out a little more than the Porto wheels, but I am concerned that I won't like the slight poke in the front. I think might end up feeling like MAW73 indicated in his quote above and my OCD may get to me every time I look at the front wheels. I don't really hate the look of my stock Porto wheels. I'm just sorry they are only 7" wide and have such a high offset. If they were just 7.5" wide and maybe less than ET50, then that would be pretty darn good. I guess I will keep my eye out for some different wheels.

Thanks to all of you for your careful answers to all of my questions.

Just to confuse you and maybe sway your decision....... 225 tyres and slightly lowered and you car would look pretty much like this...........

Hi ksing44.

Looked at your picture. Nice car, lovely colour. Those wheels let it down badly I am sorry to say.

Get some Monza Shadows or Vision Alloys. The two best looking wheels for a Golf GTi/GTD

How about these on Captain Sensible's car.
Available from the VW Accessory Catalogue.
They are Vision Alloys.

Seen those in the flesh. Somehow they don't do it for me. Not enough bling and they look weird!
