I'd rank the wheels for looks as follows:

1. Monza Shadows or Visions
2. Interlagos

Seen those in the flesh. Somehow they don't do it for me. Not enough bling and they look weird!

I must admit I favour the visions over the charleston shadows even though they are very similar.

'Visions' Express... No should have gone to Specsavers

I don't prefer too much open space for my wheels and I like a sturdy look. I guess it is my fond memory for the AMG Aero I monoblocks on my E320. So the Vision alloys are a non-starter for me. I also don't like the wheels that come stock on the GTIs, especially the 18" with the black accents. Maybe those wheels are a love or hate kind of thing.

Right now I'm thinking about some VW thick 5-spoke wheels that I can get slightly used locally. They are 17" x 7.5" wide with ET47, so they may be almost perfect for me. They are wider and spaced out just a bit compared to my stock 17 x 7 ET54 wheels and they have a nice simple chunky look. I think they would almost be flush in the front. I can also reuse my current 225/45/17 tires (tyres). In the future I could even try a slightly taller 235/45/17, to see how that fills the gap.

Thanks for your encouragements re. the MX5

No comment

Sorry, but these wheels just don't do it for me at all, especially with mudflaps. I can't believe they are an official VW accessory, they look more like aftermarket rims from Halfords :embarassed:

Didn't really intend to stir the pot on that one. I suppose it is a sensitive subject for some.

I just found out that maybe my old Mercedes wheels will fit. It probably isn't the best thing going to use my AMGs on the TDI, but I am encouraged and think it is funny that maybe I could find a use for my old favorite wheels.

Hey!!! I think that is a nice pair of cars for an American or anybody else. I even followed the European trend going for a smaller hatchback diesel.

I suspect you think it is a very dumb idea to use the old AMGs on my TDI. I didn't say I was really going to do it. I just think it is kind of interesting and funny that I could. I did love those wheels on my Benz. I also saw some pictures of VWs that looked pretty good with some Mercedes wheels, although they were the older boxier looking VWs. I was imagining the wheels possibly with Blizzaks for some laughs in the snow.

Only one way to find out what the AMG rims will look like on the Golf......get 'em on there. And then take some photos. Let the people decide!
Before you drive off with them on though I think you'll find you will require some spigot rings to locate the centre of the alloy wheel onto the VW hub. From memory I think the Merc centre bore is something like 63mm and the VW is 57.1mm  :nerd:

I think the AMG wheels (although classics) would look shockingly awful on the golf. Stick to something VW.
