Well, we've paid for these items in the price of the car.  Presumably they ask the price of the car, and that is part of what affects the insurance quote.  I'm not 100% sure why they would need to know what we'd actually got for our money, unless it was to clarify what was actually insured should we ever make a claim.

Totally true, they always ask the value of the car ... why bother if it is only a factory base model car they will replace you with as they know the price of that anyway!!

But in 3 years time your car is worth 50% (or whatever) at market value but your options typically (but not always) depreciate at more like 75-100% in that time, and they will only give you market value if it's nicked/written off so they need to know what the options are.

Like I said earlier as far as I'm concerned mods are added after the factory and need not be declared.  They have your reg no and have access the the database that lists exactly what the car has when it left the factory.  They have the value of the car.  Thats all they need to know.  After market mods should of course be declared.

I can see that some unscrupulous insurance co's will use any trick at their disposal to wriggle out of a full payout.

As for GAP if its a 'back to invoice' policy it should cover the factory options.

Dude - to be brutally honest if I were an insurance company and you came to me with 8 points and a remapped engine, I wouldn't insure you either!

When do the points come off? Perhaps wait till you're down to 3 points before the remap?

Picking up some of the earlier points, there must be a link between items such as remaps and a greater probability of accidents, or big alloys and morw theft which means that these can jack up the insurance premium.

I'm sure you know my car

I declared ALL of my modifications down to the seat inserts and footrest.

Insured through Adrian Flux....£520 fully comp, with £250 excess and like for like replacements of all my mods should the car be written off 44 yrs old with full NCB, no points and the car garaged.

Sometimes it is good to be "mature"

My points were not for speeding or anything but a mix up with insurance for the work van, where I feel i shouldnt of had the points anyway :undecided:.

Other than that I have been driving for 10+ years and never claimed on my insurance, never been involved in an accident that was my fault. Since the age of 18 I have usually driven relatively powerful and fast cars, and very rarely drive as i should :lipsrsealed:. Why wouldnt you insure me???

In theory im coming down from a more powerful car to a less powerful one also... no to mention the 5yrs ncb I have!! not a happy bunny here :embarassed:
