Spoke to bell insurance last night. They came out cheapest on a confused.com search at 386 quid. Talking it through with their call centre (US based so could call up to 11pm) it turns out I had to declare all the optional extras I specced on the car. This, as others have said, is so that in the event of a claim they will cover any extras I've added over standard spec.

Declaring all that (see my signat) added about 50 quid to the premium.

Gonna check with admiral and elephant (though I think they're all part of the same group) as well since I want to do the 10mth ncb accelerator.

Just remember keelaw the 10mth thing means your insurance is only for 10months and not the full year... great for building up ncb though.

After trying every company mentioned on this thread and few suggestions from over on the MK5 board I didnt manage to find one company that would insure me for under £2k!!  :embarassed:

the problems being sighted were mainly down to most insurance companies staying away from anyone with more than 7 points, and the fact that the car has a different registered owner and keeper. The Revo map and aftermarket wheels obviously dont help the situation.

So I went back to my current insurance company (kwik-fit) and they said that should I stay with them and change the car then my premium would could down by £16 per annum  What a result!! roll on next friday

I'm looking to buy a new white 5 door gti.  Current policy is with DirectLine so although their website gives out insurance premiums for the standard spec car I wanted to run by them the issue of factory options.

Buying new

If YOU add ANYTHING over and above the standard spec (including heated seats, wheels etc etc) then this MUST be declared.  However, not every modification with attract an additional premium - they will decide that and let you know!

Buying second hand

It is obvious from all the current gtis for sale from the dealers (used) have factory fitted options.  However, if you dont know that extras have been added and have not been told about the extras then as far as you are concerned it is a standard car and you continue on that basis.  You cannot expect to know something that you have not been told.

There you have it.

Let us know how you get on.  I'm still on the fence about remapping.  I'd love to do it but - so many consequences....
