Its a right b!tch when you work like this, You cant see the rest of the stuff behind the car and when it rains you have to cover the car and pack everything away FAST!  happened a few times this week!  (i bet Dan and his wagon know what thats like!)

As posted earlier when i first fitted the coilovers i was unhappy with the rear, i couldnt get a decent ride height without problems!  The main one was with the little amount of weight on the rear, a low ride height would end up with the cars weight resting on the helper springs which made the car bouncy as fook.. Also i just chucked them on without doing the airlock thing you're supposed to do to the dampers before fitting! And in the panic to get her on the road i started taking short cuts and didn't service the inner arches like i did the front and still hadn't taken off the last part of the body kit covering the N/S arche. Off it all came!

found some rust too!

It was just the lip that was dodgy and the kit covers it... not the point though as the kit screws to the lip and I need it to be strong and for the rust not to spread.  ground all the sh*t off, treated the rust 5 times until all i could see was clean metal and had to resort to epoxy metal to fill up the gaps.  will do for now, be ok once sanded down and painted but will be keeping an eye on it, new metal welded in soon me thinks.

Also scrubbed the inner arches to death!

Got the old black stuff out to keep them nice!!!

Took the rear coilovers to bits, removed the helper springs so i could wind them up without affecting the height but make the car sit on the proper springs!... its loads better now and when jacked up the spring is still under tension..

Took the rear brakes to bits... were mint and working perfectly so even though i have replacements for everything i have left them for now, just changed the wheel bearings on both sides just for peace of mind as its been stood for so long!...

The fronts were OK too with only a small lip on the discs and the pads were still really thick.. wasnt happy about the corrosion though and again I had bought replacements for everything so thought i may as well change it all.  I made an error though, because of the hybrid setup i had taken the pads out on one side to make sure i bought the right ones (it has been 6 years!).  forgot about it and had pressed the brake pedal recently, piston on that side was up against the disc!.. doh!..  opened the bleed nipple for it and pushed it back in with a G clamp, pushed it in and pumped it back out a few times (painfully slow) to make sure it was ok, reapeted this on both sides, pistons are mint!...  Cleaned up the calipers, bled the entire system and fitted new wheel bearings, discs and pads.

Old Grooved 256mm disc

New Vented, Drilled and grooved MK2 16v discs/pads with a Corrado G60 Caliper clinging on to it!

A little addition to the big update, finally found a genuine GTI wing thats in good enough condition to make mint again.  wasnt going to settle for a pattern panel and theres been some right nasty over priced sh*t around.  at inters a guy wanted £45 for rust.. got this for 20.

bit of a gamble as the ebay pics showed nothing but was worded honestly.

just had quick rub down and a couple of coats of rust treatment to see what the crack was.

Its a bit pitted in the corner and has a minor dent so its gonna need a bit of work.  the inside is mint so i think it will do the job when i'm done with it.

So i have struggled for ages to find the glass for my BOSCH Valance mounted fogs...units are rare as fook but work really well poking through the BBS kit.. I need to fix them becuase the kit was cut for them.

glass was cracked from the smash... been looking everywhere and everytime i find something similar, the numbers just dont match and they're slightly different!  After a year of looking a boxed pair of units that had been unopened for like 20 years turned up but I couldn't justify the price!

Would you adam and eve it!?

The same glass is used on the fogs for these!!!

Got one of the bay for £14 delivered

Boooo, sun was out all day and had other sh*t to do....   Just managed to get an hour or so in so attacked the rear valance with Plan B.. I have a repair panel to replace the lot but since its only got a couple of holes in it and its still structurally sound, i rubbed it down, treated and filled the bad bits, 3 in total, keyed it and painted... it'll do for now.

Of course it had to rain just before the paint was properly dry!  May have to re-do it tomorrow!!

Guess what I had to do again today!!!!!!!   Rain had fooked it, pits in the paint from water droplets and the paint had gone gooey!

Also smoothed out the dents and inperfections in the new wing ready for painting...

Boring little update but was pi55ing it down!  again....

The Vauxhall Frontera fog arrived, opened up my damaged fog to find a sealed unit inside.. I knew I had to split the glass off somehow and was going to ask how!

opened up the frontera fog and found the same shizzle as mine inside!  The reason I was suprised was because of the way they are both put together, looked like the glass was clamped down from the front and the back of the frontera one looked like it was complete with nothing else inside.

Need to clean up my fogs now and put them back together, may have to get another frontera fog as one looks loads fresher than the other now!

Works been tough, not enough daylight and have too much going on to do much to the car.... its really fecking depressing at the mo.. At least wanted the old girl on the road before the winter comes!... anyway, to prove i am still doing odds and sods when i can....

Working like this after work on the bits that i can

Finished a rear arch tonight, one left to do

Have a big old shed out the back, was full of sh*t.. cleared it out and made a work space.  Got a quote to get power in there and hope to have it done by the end of the month, for now i have lots of battery powered lighting that is good enough to do lots of sanding by hand, have been concentrating on rubbing the kit down and making the odd little repairs ready for painting.  You may remember i had to use the grinder on the screws for the skirts which fecked them up a bit and the front valance (which i have nearly finished) had some scuffs from the accident.
