Spot the Problem - GGGRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr
« on: 21 June 2009, 09:41 »
Right then, the " Noise " from the top of my engine is now at the point that before I spend OWT else on her, it needs sorting,

so today i got up  before my Fathers Day Breakfast and stripped her down to see what i could see.

Opend up the heart of the old girl, and there was nothing obvious

then i noticed the ISSUE  seems the " top end rebuild " just before i bought the car really was CR@P

So those that can spot the " problem " can you advise me

1, would this cause a " cammy rattle / knock )

2, where to go from here / what to do.

Thanks in advance

possibly, im not sure how different the caps can be

swap them over and cross your fingers! hopefully theres no damage under there as the head is softer than the cams  :undecided:

has it always been noisey since you have owned it then?

were there any marks/scoring on the caps?

thinking about it if its only just started making a niose thats probably not the problem. it would be noisy straight after the rebuild and get quieter as the cam caps are 'reshaped'

bearings and the caps are paired for a reason. the problem is the damage has more then likely been done now.
If your buying im selling!!!!!!!

the best thing to do is swap the stuff you have from your spare engine into this car check the bearings on the old one first might be worth getting a new set for peace of mind though. any damage to the camshaft.

New set? IIRC they can't be swapped out as they are machined unique to each head, its a new head affair if the cam caps are damaged.

I did fix it for you ...
