just lift them and look that'll soon tell you.
you can have the heads tunnel bored and retrofit shells to them if your keen but not worth it on std heads

The cap nuts are sensitve to torque. Perhaps a re-torque might help?
Whats the chain like?
Is is definitely nothing to do with the tappets?

I know I wouldn't - moving them around in the first place can't have helped, moving them back will be even worse.

well i have succeedied inf cuking my back doing this today, so
1, i wont be doing owt on the car
2, it will have to come apart one way or the other
cos if its not that then it is the lifters

Worse case, its the lifters, and I DONT get them done ? what could happen. I might just run the lump into the ground as the CHEAPEST option
