Well u could say that, but if it is that crank speed sensor, then its not really my lucky day, especially as the job looks like a nightmare :)

ohh and the oil light doesnt flash...... it only stalled once or twice as the revs went down, but idles abit low if u ask me... hope its not this crank sensor... i thought it might be a leaky vacuum hose.

Crank sensor is a piece of piss if it is that. Just unbolt the front engine mount to get access whilst supporting the block on a trolley jack.
Check the cable that runs from it beneath the oil filter and cooler. These are really common for failing due to the engine heat making them weak and brittle

Len, did you replace the throttle body gasket when you removed it?

Ummmm NO!

Why? Surely that could be a metal to metal and not be a problem?

Did you not put a gasket in at all then?
It may be metal to metal, but it may not be dead flat, so hence a gasket is needed to make it airtight.
I mentioned it as, although this isn't the problem, i once cleaned the throttle body on my dad's old Audi 90 Quattro 20v, i didn't change the gasket, and car started to idle irraticly, i changed the gasket for new and it was fine. The gaskets do tend to fall apart whenever the throttle body is removed.

Would having a vacuum leak also cause Lower Idle Revs and maybe cutting out?

for example.. clutch down, revs drop 500 then jump back up to around 800-850...
but sometimes it has stalled if more power was in use, fogs etc... is quite scary when turning round in a road and it stalls, and the steering just doesnt move

crank speed sensor.

If yours is the 2.0 8V I'd say those symptoms are more likely to be Hall Sender. Crank Speed Sensor doesn't generally allow the car to start and run if its dead.
