nightmare...
« on: 07 May 2009, 10:06 »
so my mk3 let me down big style last night...

chucking down with rain, pull up to let somone out of a space and the revs stick at 2000... I think to myself "thats odd" I rev it to see if it goes back down right and it sticks higher and takes a few seconds to come back down and again sticks at 2000rpm. person in front has pulled out so go to move off and car shudders, revs die and car dies... "sh*t!!" wont start, battery is fine (brand new yesterday) starter is turning over enginge but nothing happens.

Figure its probably dizzy. Anyone had this problem before?

it needs a new PAS belt which also drives the alternator so I know battery isn't charging properly while I'm driving and I figure that might be why the revs stuck high (the engine management trying to keep charge going to battery)...?? Is this a correct assumption?

could try cleaning throttle body... would that help?

thanks in advance for any help

dad drove me around to the car just now and took off the distributer cap to find the centre connection totally black and covered in dust. tried to clean it up but as we did the connection went back up into the cap (spring broken or worn away completely) Ordered a new cap, should be here by saturday. rotor arm cleaned up ok so not goin to get another one right now.

hopefully that will get the car goin till I can get the service on wednesday.

thanks again for the help
