car wont start ?
« on: 03 May 2009, 17:35 »
Hi everyone, great forum btw
just got a 2005 golf gti on friday, used it friday night and saturday without any problems at all.
parked it up last night and when i went to go in it today it wont start, the engine sounds like it has no compression,it just doesn't sound right, its not even attempting to fire at all.
also it comes up on the display STOP and makes a noise.
any ideas ?
thank you

53,000 miles
its not a wizzing sound as such, just doesnt sound like a normal engine turning over

if the cars ticking over, you will be able to see the cam belt trying to move, its on the left hand side of the engine, runs up the side

wouldnt try and start it too many times, just incase it has slipped,

coil packs im unsure of, but there under the engine cover (snaps off) and at the back of the plastic oil cover housing

best bet is check the cam belt, if not find some one with vag com...

car is turning over ok,it is not ticking over, cant see cam belt without removing the cambelt cover.
i cant see any gaps to see whether or not the cams are turning

ok,found a cover to remove and got someone to turn engine over, camshaft is turning so the cam belt is not snapped :)
