I'm too old(boring) to be messing about with exhaust upgrades :)

....

Do you know how old I am? - I'll let someone else here tell you.

A Milltek exhaust is without doubt the first mod I would do to any new performance car I had, regardless of whether I would continue with other mods or not. Most modern cars are over soundproofed and I consider hearing the engine of ANY vehicle I drive to be a driving aid, and that's without the consideration of the pure joy of hearing some good exhaust music.

I'm afraid that if you think you are too old, then I feel sorry for you - You are missing out.

I do :D

Oh I agree, engine sound in all cars is vitally important, especially to me - but you can't polish a turd! To get proper engine accoustics (IMO of course - sound/noise is subjective!) it has to be a 6-cyl engine and above, which I have had for the previous 7 years of car ownership. And without any fettling, sound infinitely better than any 4-cyl car with any kind of exhaust/induction changes.

The GTI is not a great sounding engine, its OK, but its real joy as I have said before is how it delivers its power, its handling and the way it does that all in a shell that oozes class and respectibility. The other day for example I was hooning around with my mate who has a Z4 Coupe 3.0si (a car that is much closer to my specification of my kind of car), and up to around 80-90mph there is absolutely nothing in it in performance, and in and out of bends its probably arguably quicker and more fun - and that fact put a smile on my face, if the sound of the car didnt :)

I don't disagree

My previous car was a BMW straight-six and any 4-pot is not the greatest but I have to say that mine is as good as it gets and many people comment on how nice she sounds.

I've got the new supercharged V6 S4 quattro to play with next week

Sorry but subarus sound absolutely awful! Couldn't think of a more annoying and chavvy sound!

My CTR sounded good for a 4pot

(but then it did need an exhaust  )

The only decent sounding engine i have heard under a V6 is the focus ST's engine.

You are joking aren't you?

Unless you mean the the chavs with straight through exhausts that you can hear a mile away.

My other half's Scoob sounds sweet, but its only a relatively quiet Prodrive system that burbles nicely.

Agree that the Focus ST sounds nice, though.

Problem with the Scoobys is so many people have put glass shateringly loud exhausts on them they you start to think they are standard exhausts.
