Yes and no neo. The FSI aspect of the engine only works for a certain amount of miles per tank. 98/98 RON fuel allows the engine to run more miles in FSI mode, is the long and short of it (or so I have read).

Rhyso, keep your sooty dirty nose out of this please :D

Yes... it's not swine flu....you have the fuel line rattle illness.

This mod should actually be a dealer recall as nearly all Gti's suffer from the probem. Most dealers do not know of the problem or even the remedy, in the states they have sorted the problem through the dealer network.

Follow the instructions on the link but use stands as well as a jack to be safe.

Good luck.....You will be amazed

Really Glad you posted this, i think mine has this issue, sounds like its on the dash but is much louder by the pedals, will be taking a look and fixing this weekend me thinks,

Something that is a bit odd is that it seemed to stop over the winter months but is back now, wierd things these Gti's at times, but i have to say down the B roads on the way to cornwall this weekend it made it all worth while

I drove an Octavia VRS the other day, obviously with the same engine as you gentlemen. Has to be said that I thought it sounded terrible at idle, just like my diesel...! The GTI's that I have been in have all sounded similar (although not quite as bad as the Skoda!).

I must admit that it would drive me insane. At least mine is supposed to sound like sh!te....

same fuel consumption, just as refined but much much faster.

 How did you manage 30mpg from the M3? I researched them as i was looking to buy but they were thousands more a year to own in running terms (servicing, parts etc) Decided i didnt want a car that meant i needed a few thousand in the bank for when (not if) something went wrong!

I find turbo engined cars are a little noisier mate, maybe you are just use to N/A engines?

Nope, i used to have an Mitsubishi Evo, and also a Leon Cupra R.

Its a 4-pot. All 4 cylinder engines sound rubbish :)

The GTI is nice on song though, and little things like the turbo dump valve noise add to its character.

The way it produces its power and handles outweighs the sound IMO.

....Agreed, but a Milltek exhaust does a heck of a lot to make the GTI sound better.

....

Do you know how old I am? - I'll let someone else here tell you.

A Milltek exhaust is without doubt the first mod I would do to any new performance car I had, regardless of whether I would continue with other mods or not. Most modern cars are over soundproofed and I consider hearing the engine of ANY vehicle I drive to be a driving aid, and that's without the consideration of the pure joy of hearing some good exhaust music.

I'm afraid that if you think you are too old, then I feel sorry for you - You are missing out.

Yeah its a sort of metallic rasp the M3s make when nailed, bit of a marmite noise, some love it, some  loathe it.

LOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!
