Find another dealer, assuming its the vw warranty it is covered under warranty.  A normal regass maybe isn't but as you say it shouldn't need that yet.

I tried the same. Aircon needing a regas isn't covered under warrenty as it's classed as general wear and tear. I can't see amy dealer doing it for free. Make sure you don't have the Eco button on as this what turns the A/C off. I'd take it else where for a regas as that is a lot. Kwik fit do it for £45 I think.

In theory it shouldn't need re-gassing at all as it is a sealed system.  However they can be prone to leaks due to the use of rubber hoses and vibration etc.

They should be finding the leak prior to adding new refrigerant (gas) otherwise you will just be having to add gas again in the future.  How soon depends on the size of the leak.

Not sure about vehicle air conditioning but with normal office a/c it is against the law to top up with gas wothout finding the leak.

Be careful with just regassing!

You should really have the old oil drained and renewed from the compressor as part of the service so ask if this is included.
Without traction power is nothing!

As long as there is positive pressure in the system I can't see the need for this?  The only reason you would need to change the oil, in this case, is if the system has been open to atmosphere.  As the oil is very hygroscopic it absorbs moisture very easily which is a big no no in a refrigeration system.

I am quoting what TT has stated here about the oil:

" You will also need to add the correct amount of compressor oil (G 052 300 A2 - and about £50 for a 250ml tin!  ) - and this oil is crucial - as a lot of places (like Kwik-Fit) fail to add this when regassing".

Ok.  Basically if you have a gas leak there is the potential to also lose oil which is what TT is getting at there I think.  In this case the only way be sure the correct amount of oil is in there is to drain the old stuff out and add the correct amount as he says.

The best way with air con is to have the system drained and vac'd down, they should then pressure test it with a dye to see if you have any leaks, then it will be regassed with the correct amount of oil and gas, if the oil is left out the compressor can sometimes or will fail.
