Mine's coming up to 4 years without a re-gass and works perfectly  :undecided:

I would suggest that those that have needed a regass have a leak which if applicable will be a warranty repair.

hi i posted a thread on this a couple of weeks ago just search aircon and warranty, basicaly mine stopped getting cold after only 8 weeks of ownership took it to my local aircon service place where he checked it for nothing and gas/pressure was fine so called stealers and had huge row with them as they tried charging me £100 odd to service it etc, in the end i persuaded them to take it in and have a look at it under warranty, turned out the compressor had packed in after only 37k on a 06 plate £600 odd for new compressor all done under warranty even gave system full service and re-gas etc and valeted car all for absolutely nothing= what a result and aparantly they have had a few in with this problem ,hope this helps,

VW recommend your A/C be serviced (re-gased etc etc) every two years.

My aircon wouldn't blow cold last year.  Took it to the dealers who diagnosed a faulty fan motor which required the dashboard to be removed to replace the motor.

Predictably once the motor was changed it still wasn't cold, so they changed the compressor which sorted the problem.  All of this was done under warranty so it didn't cost me anything.

Just out of interest, I enquired about the cost when I collected the car.  The service guy was telling me the figures for various parts and then labour rates.  We gave up once we got to £1000!!  They had my car for a week and supplied me with a courtesy car while this was being done.

Can't fault my local dealer so far (fingers crossed!)

Also had problems with my Aircon and after inspection, my dealer replaced the compressor and other related parts. Never even hinted at charging for a regas, which was done anyway

As suggested, if your VW dealer won't do the work, go to another

My A/C started making noises recently and then the noise stopped....but so did the cold air.  Thought it may have been the compressor, took it into the dealers and it was completely out of gas and oil.  They ran the dye through, couldn't find the leak so regassed it and it's been fine since.  All done under warranty.

That's interesting, so you ran out of gas and they filled you up under warrenty? I don't see why they would do that . . .

Because its a sealed system and shouldn't be escaping

Over a long-ish period of time the pressure will go down but it shouldn't be going down that quick that the system is in-op after two years.

basically getting fobbed off by the dealer i got it from now, sayin that they will look at it (knowing that i live 150 miles away)!  how often shoud the aircon need re-gassing? the car is jan 2007 so just over 2 years old. i think my next move will be just to take it down to kwik fit for them to check if it needs re-gassing, if so i dont mind payin the £40-odd they charge for re-gas but not £100 plus labour vw want to charge me!!!!
