the problem with this country today is that the rubbish has taken control no deterrent punishment, very few police on the streets except plastic plods if you look on other high performance car websites its looking more common when i was in my younger days car theft was a more serious offence tda now the thieves are given presents to help them mends their ways (yer right) the only person who suffers is you insurance pays out loss of no claims bonus then a higher premium governments talk tough tough on crime and do nothing

Been there and experienced that, sadly.................................................

Sorry for your loss.

This country is fecked :embarassed:

For years the Government has eroded the priorities and responsibilities of the Police in terms of finance, objectives and efficiency. Car crime has become a statistic of the insurance companies and the Police have become both civil servants and crime accountants.

Don't get mad, get even

Very unlikely you'll be a repeat victim - take the usual precautions and hopefully you'll never see your car again and get a new like for like replacement.

Globalisation is the future and I think that criminal punishments should be outsourced... maybe thieves like the one who took your car would think twice if they were shipped off to say... Saudi Arabia, for some proper punishment   .

At any rate, they wouldn't - literally - be able to do it again..

Think you may well be onto something here mate!!!

Just think of all the competition for contracts from other countries... crime would no longer be costing the tax payer a fortune. We could even push for compensation, whilst making them work in sweat shops abroad (making the same addidas tracky bottoms they nicked from JD).

You know what, thats a brilliant business idea.  I reckon we should go halves and present it to Dragons Den... we set up a Ltd Company and obtain contracts from HM Government to take prisoners off their hands.  At the same time, we contact sweatshops in 3rd world countries and offer them labour at half the going rate in their own countries - this obviously means we need a large amount of prisoners, but its not a problem as the past 25 years of government in the UK has produced plenty of dysfunctional people to populate the prisons.

Its a no brainer    The only obstacle I can see is the law, but the way its going, I'm sure the government would have done away with any vestige of human rights etc... within 5 years and an incoming Tory government will deliver the coup de grace, leave the EU and so we won't be subject to their looney laws    I reckon we'ill be Millionaires within 6 years... we should ask for £200k initial capital for 1% of the company.

I guess i should get cracking with the business plan then!!

Although I do remember a person on dragons den that came on with the idea to take people over to india for cheap operations. He was shot down though as the dragons though it was not environmentally friendly to fly people that far..... never did get that one :undecided:

Cost of air travel could prove a little high, and accommodation would be a bit of an unwanted overhead, but i think if we can get them into the right sweatshop we are onto a winner!!!

Either way its better than the system we have in place at the moment!!

I recently had my £800 mountain bike stolen (not trying to compare it to this incident!), but it was just the whole matter of factness that it was delt with, even I accepted it very quickly as "normal", the police were hardly bothered. Didnt even phone me back when I rang "lost property" at my local station to see if by chance it was found by someone.

I have total lack of respect for law inforcement in this country. They are friggin usless. Unless of course you happen to be doing 41 in a 40 - then they are pretty damn quick to issue prosecutions!!

I am still reeling myself for your loss as I cant even begin to imagine how angry I would be if my R was taken. I agree with the comments about the law. These people feel its worth the risk as the punishments simply never fit the crime. Its a discrace.

It seems so often that cars are taken once the scum have broken in to get the keys. What options do we have then for some engine/immobilser cut out system that means when the car is started it quickly stops? Evidently some sort of input would be required from the driver, perhaps a code, but then there is the hassle of entering it everytime the car is started. Can anyone suggest anything that is available? Even if I had to keep a keyfob in my wallet so the immobiliser system knew it was 'me' then the keys are separate so if only the keys are taken the engine would either cut out or not even start.

Trackers are an option of course to locate your car but the car can still be driven away at ease. As already mentioned it is the principle of these people thinking they can just turn up and take something you have worked so hard for.  It enrages me. They then generally get away with it.

Blackjaxx from clifford. Exactly what you described.

It works everytime a door is opened though. Has a star and a button, if the code was 123 you would press star, then the button once, star then the button twice etc.

I had it in the ctr along with autostart. I didnt have it activated as it was a pain in the arse (and i lived on the isle of wight where car theft doesnt happen)

All roads lead to no-where if you get what i mean, but i hope something will happen before the week end.

Cass

Just been informed that i am not entitled to a courtesy car as the car is stolen and I'm loosing my 5 years no-claims with a valuator ringing in 7-10 days and as i have said earlier for a like for like replacement I'm looking at £1800 insurance which is a grand on top of what i 'used' to pay.

The fact is I'm looking at the 1.2 Litre brigade, even a nice MK2 GTI will cost me £1000 and a G60 £1200

I did look into original minis coming in at £750 as i used to own a 54 reg S before my R and a new S is looking around the £1200 mark.

This is what is getting to me now, not the car gone just the inconvenience its causing, may just buy a SH*TTER and spend the rest moving home.

Haven't read the whole post but can sympathise. Four men tried to break down my door with a hammer at 10.30 in the evening last week. My wife and I had just managed to get our 5 week old son to sleep when it happened. The police claimed they had almost certainly been after my car, a black GTi. The door did it's job but I have since had an alarm system installed and ordered a new door at a cost of £1500. Worryingly you would expect a PVCu door with a five point locking mechanism to be pretty solid, however, as happened to a house further up the street where their new Civic Type-R was stolen, they simply kicked the middle of the door through. The police also advised I install sash jammers as an extra precaution.

It is becoming very commonplace unfortunately, but crime normally happens in waves, so the fad will pass. Everyone just needs to be extra vigilant, but also remember that a car is just a car.

thats horrible mate especially with the little one, hopefully they wont be back.

Im now reeling from my insurance company assessor ringing basically asking me every question other than "did you pay for your car to go missing".

Currently looking at viable options for a new motor, any ideas are more than welcome.
