GTI rev limit 5k?
« on: 06 April 2009, 18:14 »
Hello all,

Newby here - so hello!

Quick one - am looking at a 2l 8v GTI to upgrade my current mk3 1.8 8v!

On the listing the guy has put "Also still has original engine restriction at 5000rpm proven from ecu test that was replaced sept 2008 so the car has never been driven fast."

Did the GTI's have a rev limit of 5k?  He says its the AGG engine which Haynes say is a Simos 4S ECU

Cheers,

James
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

either timing or the ecu is in safe mode....(the timing is more common and easy to fix...just get the belt replaced at the same time)

Thanks for the rapid replys chaps.

I suspect thats part of why the ECU was replaced.  Are they easy to get at on these?  I've done mine - was easy enough.

Any other fobiles of these engines?

Cheers,

James

these are the figures that matter (oh and your generous with the 115hp  :lipsrsealed:)
abf 133 lb-ft @ 4800rpm + 148bhp @ 6000rpm
agg 122 lb-ft @ 2600rpm + 113bhp @ 5400rpm

see the tiny 11 lb-ft difference and thats 2200rpm lower (No thrashing needed for peak torque )
