is highline an essential option?
« on: 28 March 2009, 18:48 »
i've seen a couple of cars, but doesn't have highline. for one who likes gadgets and controls, i don't know the full use of these, but reading about it being able to control timing on lights etc sounds cool.

would you dismiss a car without highline?

Yes. Vagcom can do this IIRC.

the other thing i could think of is that it looks more trick and can tell which door is open by diagram etc. shame people didn't spec it at £50

I put highline into the 'essential' category, along with the centre arm rest and MFSW.
To me, a GTI looks incomplete without a highline display - I dont like the way half of the screen is just blanked out.
I probably wont be paying a load for the VagCom connection, so the more settings I can change without it, the better.
I also want to use sat nav at some point, along with OEM bluetooth - both of which can be displayed on a highline display.
Other options I was after are easily added by dealerships at any time - the Highline is one of the harder ones since it requires a complete dash refit.

A lot of people didnt spec it with their new GTI's - probably because they didnt realise at that point how much extra it could do.

Only seems to be essential to nit-pickers who don't own a GTi.   I wouldn't let this be a deal breaker lads. The mk 7 will be out before you buy one ;-)

I dont have this on mine and to be honest i'm not that bothered. I simply enjoy driving the car rather than worrying about what options it has or has'nt got. If you love your gadgets then you probably see things from a different angle but for me, it makes no difference.

Its deff a nice to have but not essential and IMO not worth discounting a car for.

Another thing that surely a dealer would recommend if you were buying a new car... esp for only £50!!

I didnt get it because the dealer told me I didnt need it :undecided: If i had known about this forum before ordering I definately would have spec'd it. Another useless dealer who doesnt know what they are talking about

Wouldnt say its a show stopper as far as a deal is concerned, and certainly doest change the driving experience, but does give you a little something to toy with whilst your waiting for the missus to get back from the shops

To be honest, when I was first looking I wasnt so bothered. But after joinging this forum, as R32UK just said, I learnt more about what it does etc, and it entered the essential category for me - being a gadget lover and all ;)
I guess Im just lucky Ive found it in the car Im interested in! Luckily the guy only lives in the next town, so a 20 min taxi ride to get to him, do the deal, then drive the new GTI home ;) Hopefully this Wednesday!
Fair enough - if you found a car that was a great deal, and had everything else you wanted except Highline, then you shouldnt overlook the car completely...

That sound promising ifti, good luck mate.

I have midline & although nice, highline was not an esential for me & IMO it certainly has not spoiled my enjoyment of the car.

I have full 'Driver information System' on my A4  & TBH I played with it for the first few months, but I don't really bother now.

We have our priority's & xenons, privee glass, & folding mirrors were the box tickers for me, the rest of the bits are a bonus I the wifes car.

You will enjoy it however it comes out of the box.
